Ill be taking the Kaplan review course soon and I was wondering what people who have also taken it as well have thought about it. Any thouoghts or comments? Thanks.

I took Kaplan last May. I think they offered a lot of good pointers, plus the review book was very concise and easy to use. I think, more than anything, that taking Kaplan gave me confidence...although I did start crying at the testing center when the computer shut off at 75 questions. I thought for sure I failed...but I passed!! Best of luck to you!

FWIW, was told by a nurse at work yesterday not to bother with a review course. Said she wasn't a particularly good student or test-taker and had no probs at all with the NCLEX.

She suggested a book to get familiar with the test format and some self-study.

Depends on how you learn. If you are visual, and motivated, you might do well in self-study. If you are auditory, and need feedback, class time might be better. Remember, the national pass rate is >80%!!

Hi Kat983,

As purplemania said, it does depend on your learning style and test-taking style. I think taking Kaplan can't hurt you except financially. So if you can afford it, I'd say go for it. I know it has helped several of my friends pass who just needed the confidence and extra edge to go in there and pass.

Other friends of mine who took it and didn't pass with it, had difficulty with more content and knowledge-based questions. Kaplan teaches you how to pick apart the questions and see through to the answer. So expect to do TONS of questions.

The best part of Kaplan in my experience is the book and CDROM. If you can get 60% or higher on those tests, it is a good indicator you will pass. They are very similar in style and even the appearance of the NCLEX.

Good luck in making a decision and we'll pray for your success!

God Bless,

I have the 2003 edition of the Kaplan review book and quite a few Lippincotts review books. Ive been doing them for the past 4 semesters while in classes. The hopsital where i will be working at actually pays for the course and the NCLEX testing fees, so thats really nice. And my school is holding a 3 day review as well so i figure ill do both. Thanks all!

Kat

I took a week long Kaplan course and it was worth every cent I paid for it. They help you to find the answer that they are looking for. I graduated in Decemeber, took the review course the next week and NCLEX on Feb.2, got my results in the mail the very next day. (My test stopped at 75 questions).

Good Luck!
