Johns Hopkins Hospital Nurse Residency 2017

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi everyone!!

I recently accepted a job at JHH in the nurse residency program on the MICU and I start February 06, 2017. I wanted to reach out and see if anyone else is starting then/ or around that date? Also what units, when your taking NCLEX and how your feeling nearing the end of school?! :roflmao:

Hey Shalbal, congratulations for passing the NCLEX! You must be so happy and relieved. Cannot sait until I take mine on febuary. Any advice? What resources did you use?

Thank you very much! I used UWorld and Hurst. Hurst really helped me to brush up on my content and UWorld was great practice question wise. The rationales of each question are very detailed and ultimately that's what helped me the most. Also, the layout looks just like the NCLEX. Just be confident in yourself, you got this!

Thank you! I'm doing Hurst right now and loving it so far, I like how they focus so much with content. Will definitely use uworld, everybody seems to find it extremely helpful. How long did you study uworld?

Bryan

I bought a 3 month UWorld subscription while I was still in school but didn't really put it to use until after I graduated. I studied everyday for about 5 weeks before testing.

Took the NCLEX last Saturday and found out today I passed in 75 questions!! The PVT also worked for me. Good luck bg148602 if you haven't already taken it!

Congrats, very happy for you and pray I receive the same outcome in June, when I graduate in May.

Yes, you can JmhATL! The test is really not that difficult at all. Just study hard and believe in yourself!

Thank you for the vote of confidence!

Hi!

Im so happy I found this thread, Im also a new grad and will be doing a personal interview for the MICU this february! Do you have any advice or remember any questions they asked you? I've never had a shadowing aspect to my interview and I'm nervous on what to expect or what questions to ask... I really want to start my nursing career with Johns Hopkins so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! and Congrats!

Hi Congrats!!!

Before I interviewed in the MICU I did some practice runs with some of the faculty (nursing professors) at my school and that helped a lot! They know that as a new grad we don't have any experience so it was mainly behavioral type questions. They want to know what you value and how you would handle certain situations (a difficult patient or family member, what values are important to you) things like that. Then the share time is for you to ask staff questions about the floor, to see if you are a good fit but also if you like it. I was very nervous going in. They made me feel comfortable though. Go over some behavioral scenarios in your head and be prepared to answer things like that. Worst case scenario if you can't think of something, think about how you might handle the situation. You will do great congrats on the interview!! I start February 6th, ONE MORE WEEK! I could not be more excited, and since the MICU was my first choice I feel very blessed!

Congrats, very happy for you and pray I receive the same outcome in June, when I graduate in May.

Hi! I would like to add my two cents if that is ok!!! I used UWORLD also, it was amazing, I also used La charity (this was the most helpful to me) and the NCSBN learning text review (The wording of these questions were incredibly similar to NCLEX :) ). GOOD LUCK!!!!! I'm so excited for you!

How's orientation been going RNGrad16? Hope you're having fun and learning a lot!

Hello! So I started this Monday and just received my schedule. It is a lot. But so worth it. You hit the ground running and there is a lot to learn. I remember being in school in the first week of each semester and seeing everything we had ahead of us (all the info on the syllabus and outline and sssignments basically) and feeling so overwhelmed. Not here. There are a lot of classes and they expect a lot out of you as they should but I have never felt overwhelmed a single time. They are providing an incredible amount of support to help develope me as a new grad. Everyone is so friendly and understands how you feel as new employees. It's not about "I know more than you; I'm more experienced and your wasting my time" its a group of people that love what they do and are so excited to share their knowledge with others. I love it there, I'm exhausted and I'm about to be even more exhausted here soon, but I wouldn't trade it or go back and work anywhere else coming out of school. I'm very happy with my decision.
