JOBS in OKLAHOMA

I know the job market is very tough which mean new graduates are not willing to help each other out. However I was doing some job searches just to keep my eye on the market and I found some quite interesting jobs out their for new graduate having trouble finding jobs. The hospital is in Oklahoma about an hour from Texas but they have a lot of RN positions that don't require the whole one year med-surg. or whatever experience. I completed my RN degree in the state of Oklahoma just a few months ago. Most of the big city hospitals in the Oklahoma City metro area and Tulsa metro area were offering new grad RNs a whopping $18 to $19 hourly starting wage with $2 differentials. If the major cities in Oklahoma are paying $19, I can only imagine what the smaller towns and rural areas are offering.

I realize that the cost of living in Oklahoma is lower than in many other states, but these pay rates still shocked me. I guess it is worth it if you are out of work and are desperate to build a resume with some good acute care experience.

I don't know about Oklahoma ctiy but all the hospitals in Tulsa offer 4-5$ diffrential for nights and a 4$ for weekends. And if one looks at the average amount for a luxary apartment with all appliances supplied at around 800-900$/ month it's really not that bad to start at 19$ base

I was offered a few interviews near Oklahoma City, but declined them because I decided that the likelihood of me relocating to OK was not worth me paying for the plane ticket down for the interview. The recruiters, however, were very quick to respond, very, very friendly (which was a breath of fresh air after dealing with recruiters on the east coast), and seemed genuinely interested in meeting with me. If you are able to relocate and deal with the pay (which given the cost of living doesn't seem so bad), give it a try.

I should add that I have a BSN, though I really don't have any idea if that made a difference to the recruiters or not.

I received an offer for interview in OK today. I will fly to Ardmore, OK for the interview.

I also have BSN.

Hope I will get a job there.
