Well, the second phone interview I've had in as many weeks went well. This time the manager wants to meet me, which means finding out how to get to Virginia. I don't know yet if they will pay for it or not as she has to let the recruiter know she wants to meet me :yeah: It's not my first choice, but heck at this point I'm not too picky. Ok I am picky, but not THAT picky. Its a post-surgical progressive care unit/med-surg. I was floored when the manager told me the nurse to patient ratio was 1:4 and she was asking to make it 1:3 :omy: I have never in my life heard of a nurse to patient ration so low on a medical-surgical unit. They have dobhoffs, NGT, GTubes, wound vac, wound packing, epidurals, chest tubes, telemetry, you name it I think they get it.

I am hoping for the best, though I'm not getting my hopes up to high. I've been disappointed before, but at the same time I'm really hoping this happens.

Now, I do have another phone interview for a nurse internship tomorrow as well as one scheduled for Monday. Tomorrows interview is for a hospital in OH, Monday's is for a hospital in NC.

Wouldn't it be something to actually get more than one job offer after months of nothing? A girl can hope can't she?

BEST of luck to you!!! You can do it! :heartbeat

PS: I work in med surge where pt ratio is 1:4 OR 1:3 depending on acuity.

I have worked med/surg before and never was the ratio so nice. Its usually 1:6+ everywhere I've worked. On a really bad night I've had 10 patients, granted not all of them bad. Since I was an LPN at the time the RN's took the higher acuity patients. But it sucked all around because we were that short staffed. The only units I've ever worked with a 1:4, 1:3 ratio was a cardiovascular unit and trasitional care units.

the opp will be in a post surgical care/med surg hence the reason for the low patient ratio and the nurse manager even wanting it lower at 1:3. higher acuity, a lot more monitoring:)

I've been on post surgical med/surg, mostly knee replacements and such and still had that 1:6+ ratio. If I get the job, I'll definately be in for a shock working such a low ratio. But, I also think the acuity is why. Until I actually get the job, I won't know. I'm still waiting to hear back. Of course its only Monday......:hngon:

Of course now I'm playing phone tag with a nurse recruiter for a hospital system in NC LOL. Same for VCU in Virginia. I'm hoping I get more interviews. Interviews means possible options. Granted I feel good about the place I interviewed with Thursday. I just like to finally have options you know?
