Hello everyone, I just have a question and would like some advice. I graduated in June and couldn't find a job where I was living in California so I moved to another state to work, I like the job and the people I work with, I am very satisfied with the orientation and the training I received, but I miss California so much!!!! I have been working since Oct 25 and started on the floor November 7. How long should I wait to start applying for a job back in California? I know I should wait a while longer, but was wondering how long is long enough?? I can't and won't make this place my new home, it's just for the experience.

I would think 6-12 months, minimum.

at least 1 year in one specialty (i do not live in california but i have looked at facilities all over the country because i am planning to move)! in other words, the clock starts over if you leave that specialty for another one. do not worry, 1 year will go by fast and you can go home.

i have been away from my home for over 10 years due to hubby being in the military, my schooling, and former new grad status. the place we currently live is hell in every way imaginable with the exception of the crime rate. also, i only have two hospitals with which i can choose to work and both are nightmares!!

please count your blessings!!! be fortunate that you only have 1 year to wait and that you like your co-workers and the facility. new grads from outside of the area that made the mistake of moving here are contracted to work on their horrible floors for 2 years..... gl!

i relocated for a new grad offer and i am in a horrible place. everyone is quitting left & right and leaving even with the 2 year contracts. i say if you are happy at your job, stick it out for a year, or try to transfer within the hospital to cross train for a specialty or something to keep you interested. if you are happy, stay put for at least a year. the grass is not always greener. i miss home too, but my husband got a job here so now i am stuck looking in our new area for somethineg else.

you need some social support in your new area, can you volunteer somewhere? make outside of work girls nights with the coworkers you like? i think once you settle into a social network youll be more comfortable. join a gym?find some things to do outside of work that make you feel at home. :) hang in there i am so homesick too! we can do this!

I feel ya mssocalrn...I left California 4 yrs ago and I can not wait to go back. I don't see the state I live in now (IL) ever becoming permanent for me. But I don't know how hard it will be to find a job once I start looking...still got awhile to go, just starting 1st semester next week...but it is always in the back of my mind.

I don't live in CA, but from what I've heard you will need a least a year's experience in order to be competitive in their job market.

I have several classmates who left Ca for Nursing Jobs and they cannot wait to move back to Ca after getting experience.
