Florida RN salary

I have 8 mths experience at a LTC facility: 3 mths on nights with 39 patients, 5 months on 3-11 as shift supervisor/admissions nurse. I have an ADN, and am in a BSN program now.

I just got a job offer this week at a hospital in Jacksonville, FL. When I google average RN salaries for RN's in this area it says yearly salary ranges from 52K to 79K. I was offered the first amount. I am SO grateful for this offer, but with my last job I ended up wishing I would have at least negotiated salary a little instead of just accepting anything they offered. I also realize that experience is a huge part of salary decisions.

So when they made me the job offer on the phone they said do you accept, I said yes immediately because I was so excited. Now I am wondering if I should have bargained.

Should I ask for more when I meet with HR in person next week?

Considering that $52K works out to be almost $28/hr based on a 36hr work week, I would say that's about right for this market. I am a new grad ADN in Jacksonville and can tell you I make less than that per hour in an acute hospital setting. So with your experience I would think an offer of $52K per year would be reasonable.

In my opinion, 8 months experience isn't much to start negotiating salary. Also you may be considered a "GN" due to having less than 1 year experience most FL hospitals consider. If that's the case, you'll start out at the exact same rate as others with minimal experience. However, I think the most important thing to find out is if your hospital offers clinical ladders, bonuses, and differentials because before you know it you'll be at a rate you're more happy with.

Congrats on the job offer!
