FNP programs
I have a BSN. I worked as a floor nurse in a SNF for 8 months, 4 months on a post op neuro unit at a hospital, then the past 2 years as a resident care manager at a SNF (which is similar to a RN case manager). I have always wanted to return to school and get a masters degree. Originally I thought I would take the management/ leadership route, however I have gotten burned out on managing patients and floor staff over the past 2 years. I want to return to the medical aspect of things. Hence I have decided on FNP. I am narrowing down my search for programs. I live in Oregon, I don't think I will have an issue finding a preceptor. Does anyone have any recommendations for FNP programs? Pros and Cons? Any I should steer clear from? Also, any other advice regarding NP school is appreciated. Thanks! How does a newer nurse with 1+ years of exp. non-acute care apply to hospitals?
I am in a similar boat. I do not know ANYONE where I live. I applied online to several hospitals. I quickly found out only med/surg floors will hire you. Other floors like L&D or perioperative require experience in those fields... well duh I wish I would have thought that through a little better. So the first month I got declined from everywhere. I revised my resume 4 times over the next month. I put keywords in my resume. Look at the job description of the job you want...put those key words in your resume: leadership qualities, teamwork, education, etc. That is how I started getting interviews and job offers. I was told that a computer system screens all applications for key words. And be sure to include your BSN (in progress) ___ University (expected graduation date ___) good luck !

Florida RN salary
I have 8 mths experience at a LTC facility: 3 mths on nights with 39 patients, 5 months on 3-11 as shift supervisor/admissions nurse. I have an ADN, and am in a BSN program now. I just got a job offer this week at a hospital in Jacksonville, FL. When I google average RN salaries for RN's in this area it says yearly salary ranges from 52K to 79K. I was offered the first amount. I am SO grateful for this offer, but with my last job I ended up wishing I would have at least negotiated salary a little instead of just accepting anything they offered. I also realize that experience is a huge part of salary decisions. So when they made me the job offer on the phone they said do you accept, I said yes immediately because I was so excited. Now I am wondering if I should have bargained. Should I ask for more when I meet with HR in person next week?
