What's the deal with this Information Literacy course?

So the nursing advisor is telling me that everyone has to take this class because, most likely, most college courses do not cover the material in this information literacy course.

I'm a little disappointed because out of my MANY college credits (taken previously for a BSN that I was pursuing) I was thinking that all I'd have to complete were the nursing theory exams (done with them) FCCA (currently taking) and CPNE (soon to take).

I was not, I repeat NOT looking forward to paying another 400 bucks to any other extra course which is 8 weeks long, mind you.

So my point, has anyone had transfer credits from a previous college course applied to this Information Literacy course?

If so, you mind just sharing the course title that was transferred?

If you speak with your advisor try to get permission to take information literacy at Penn Foster. It's about 1/3 of the price of EC's class. Apparenlty Information Literacy is a newer standard for associate's degrees. Most programs have the components built into their course framework, others have a separate class. There are several threads discussing using Penn Foster.

What JustBeachyNurse said is correct. I took Information Literacy at Penn Foster and transferred it to Excelsior. It cost less than $100 and that was just earlier this year, so I am sure the price hasn't changed too much. You should try to do it before the CPNE or your graduation date will be delayed. That happened to someone I took the CPNE with. She ended up graduating a month after me just because of Information Literacy. I would also call or email Excelsior and make sure they would still accept it. Also, it is not something that takes weeks to complete. It is basically teaching you how to use a library properly. You can complete the entire course in one afternoon and then request a transcript to be sent to Excelsior. Hope this helps.

Yep, I just did mine with Penn Foster a couple of months ago for less than $100 and was done in one day.

I used Penn Forster from recommendations on this board. It's all online, but they do send you a book in case that's how you learn better. I got the book about a week after I completed the course. I ran through the course, gave it little attention, and made a "C". Looking back, I wish I had spend 2 afternoons on it and gotten an "A", but it was over and done with and credit transferred to Excelsior within 1-2 weeks. I recall I took it last December and was able to get credit for it in time to start some January courses at Excelsior. I think there must have been a special last year because I paid $70 for the course and a $10 credit transfer fee.

I already had two degrees when I went through EC's ADN program, and I still had to do info lit. Do the Penn Foster option! Wish I'd known about it when I did Info Lit -- I paid EC. The EC course can be completed in a day or two, by the way -- you don't have to wait the entire 8 weeks.

Glad I googled the the information prior to paying for it. I can confirm that Excelsior does indeed honor Penn Fosters Information Literacy course! After reviewing some of the material (study unit) I finished both exams, (entire course) with an A. I don't know about ya'll, but saving money is always cool with me!
