A&P at Excelsior College

Nursing Students Excelsior

It really sucks that I have to take this course over because I took it 5yrs ago but can anyone tell me how to study for it or what materials would be helpful...

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTACH, LTC, Home Health.

Grab the free EC content guide, grab an A&P book, study group 101 notes, a&p for dummies, idiots, or made incredibly easy...whatever suits your fancy, and pluck out the information based on the EC content guide. Personally, since I'm no fan of biology and it cares even less about me, I focused my studies on the areas that didn't carry a lot of weight, based on the percentage listed on the content guide. But I honestly tried to learn something in each area...it just didn't stick. BUT, I got a B after studying for 23 days. Mind you that during that time, God was my co-pilot, I had the entire rabbit in my car, not just his foot, and I begged, pleaded, and prayed everyday for 23 days...seriously!!! If you've had A&P before, you might get by with just the rabbits foot. I didn't. I spent most of my time dropping the class over the years....always beat the withdrawal deadline!:cheeky: Good luck to you! If I got a B, you're sure to ace it!

Thanks so much!!!

Lyndaa,

Thanks for posting your advice. I procrastinated enrolling, because now I have to go back and retake A&P and Microbiology. While my total tuition at Excelsior will still be a fraction of the 25k to 30k my colleagues are paying here in Texas, it sucks to have to retake these classes again.

Reading your post made me realize that I don't have to set through 2 semesters of classes. I can test out instead. Thanks for brightening my evening.

.

You're very welcome! Obviously you passed the corse before so this should be s refresher for you!! Good luck and happy studying!:bookworm:

The EC A&P book is huge.I used it but I would get lost in the details. I started to use my LPN school AP book which was shorter and simpler. I then continued to use the LPN book as a refresher for repro, all the LS exams etc. And of course as stated, the content guide is #1. Know all the topics. I would print mine out and mark it up with page numbers in the texts next to the subjects etc.

Good luck.

I'm also planning to use my LPN A&P book (I've been putting the test off and focusing on knocking out my nursing tests).... A&P is what it is, and there's really not much a difference in the texts besides presentation. Just match up the info you need to learn from the EC Study Guide with your LVN program book (if you still have it of course). Just my two cents :)

Today I take the a&p exam at 5p and I'm doing some last minute studying. Someone please help me and give me some advise because I'm SUPER nervous because I thought I could wait and study the last 2 weeks and I did horrible on both practice exams. Both were 42 out 100...Heeeelp!!!!

Did you pass?

The practice exams don't really correlate to your overall progress. Several people have posted 40's and 50s for anp and still passed the exam. On the nursing exams I never got over a 76 and passed with all a's and b's.
