Having a beard and CPNE

Nursing Students Excelsior

I am currently enrolled in excelsior and taking their exam based option. I have a few more exams to go including reproductive and health d. 1-3. I initially inquired with admissions about having a beard during the CPNE. The admissions staff stated they aren't too sure about that specific question, however they stated that they make accommodations for religious needs. I have a 4-5 inch beard that usually stays at that length. I cannot trim or shave because this goes against my religion.

Does anyone have insight into this matter or perhaps knows if having a beard would be an issue with any of the testing areas of the cpne. Thank you for all your help.

Shouldn't be an issue. I had facial hair when I did the CPNE, wasn't even mentioned. Just keep it neat and well trimmed.

I had a goatee when I did mine and was not an issue. You will not have a patient in isolation that would require you to wear a N-95, and your not fit-tested at the testing facility anyway. So long as it is neat and groomed I would not see any issue, especially since you have it for religious reasons.

If you are really concerned that it might be an issue, you can contact the accommodations folks at Excelsior College — they specifically help people who need accommodations during the CPNE.
