Excelsior MSN

Nursing Students Excelsior

Hi, I am about to finish my BSN at in Dec. and am wanting to go straight on for my MSN. I was going to do it at WGU because it would have been a smooth transition but you have to do a research project at your place of employment for the Capstone. I am not currently employed and would like to finish my degrees while we can afford for me to be off work. I was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to complete an MSN at Excelsior? I like the idea of Excelsior anyway because they offer an MSN in Informatics. I talked to them on chat but the link the guy sent me was a time completion calculator and it said it would take 0.0 years to complete, obviously that's wrong hahaha! Anyone done it in a year or less, or know if that's possible?

This semester is FINALLY over!!! Thank goodness. How's everyone?

Have hit a major roadblock in getting my capstone done. :( I might be switching gears, and schools.

Pixie, are you serious? Im getting scared now. I just completed phase 2 and I'm so tired and want to get this degree over with. The Capstone has always been a major issue for me and I'm not looking forward to it at all.

I'm considering enrolling in the MSN/ Education program. Is there an issue with completing the Capstone? I'm in NY, I'm not sure if the issues are state dependent or if it's the program itself. Any insight would be great.

It has 99% to do with my workplace, and 1% to do with Excelsior. Many people are successful with the capstone, don't worry. I am just seeing the writing on the wall; if I want to get the capstone done, I need to go elsewhere outside of work, and I just don't have the time or inclination to do the legwork/networking that would require. I might pick it back up later, I don't know.

My issue with the capstone is that I cannot get it done where I work, and I don't have the time to go outside my facility. I am active duty Army, which means full time job as a nurse + a lot of extra military stuff.

Be aware, however, that EC cannot sign agreements with hospitals or facilities for the capstone portion. It's usually not a huge issue because it's not a hands-on clinical, but it's something to keep in mind.

Thank you so much for your reply. I've been debating this for quite a bit, and quite frankly I'm still on the fence. Best of luck to you, I hope that something is able to be worked out.

Thanks for responding, Pixie. I work for a Home Health Agency. Do you think that would be fine? I noticed you said the hospital would be an issue. That's why I asked.

Just my hospital. lol. From what I've heard EC is fairly flexible in working with students if they hit snags with the capstone, but I don't have a workaround. Well, I could probably find one if I contacted people at other area hospitals, but I just have too much going on to try to do this outside my workplace.

It's been almost 2 months since you last posted, Pixie. Time is going too fast. Anyway, I'm waiting for the Capstone to start in Jan. so I'm enjoying this long break from EC I have at the moment! I hope everyone else is fine.

What's to say? My degree with EC is on hold, as I said. I start my FNP program this month.

Yes, I know you did say that. Best of luck with your FNP program. I thought maybe you changed your mind. Anything can happen. I know you will complete your FNP fast because you've always been so determined!! Also I've always wanted to tell you thanks for being military. I've always had so much respect for military staff going overseas for the US.
