Excelsior Journals

Nursing Students Excelsior

Does anyone know what happened to the Excelsior College Journals on their Nursing Discussion Board site? This was an important resource for those preparing for the CPNE!

Thanks!

Hi Beachie, caould you e-mail it to me? [email protected] thanks!

Maybe we could persuade the moderators here to give us a EC journals topic for posting of journals only, either by test post or file upload.??

I could make a "sticky" post/dedicated thread where people can post journals. Stickies are now at the bottom of the forums, just FYI. Does that appeal to you all?

Edited to add: I do wish EC would give some guidance as to why they were deleted, just to let us know if they view it as being against academic honesty from this point forward? I dunno. I mean, they had a spot for them for the longest time, so I kinda feel like any journals posted before they removed the section on January 18th are kind of grandfathered in. LOL

I Think that would be great Lunah, the journals are so valuable to the ones prepping for CPNE, as you already know.

The CPNE journal section of My Excelsior Community was deleted as of January 18, 2012. Journals will no longer be accepted anywhere on the nursing discussion board.

This is crazy...the journals were so helpful!

I remember reading those journals and several of them went against EC's Academic Honesty Policy. I remember cringing and saying to myself... I hope EC doesn't see this.

When students post things sometimes they don't realize their information is actually hurting other students and EC. Prime example... a CE nor a CA has to give a student an extra chance to do a B/P or an apical pulse. But on ocassions because of special circumstances we don't know about, a student is given an extra chance. So then when another student is denied that extra chance because there were no special circumstances and then base their appeal for faling a PCS or CPNE ™ for a B/P or Apical pulse and site the journals posted as their proof...it messes everything up. I don't know if this is the real reason but I would bet it has something to do with it.

t-lo, that makes sense, and I agree with you ... some of the journals probably did violate the spirit of the intent of EC creating that forum. But to just yank them without explanation is goofy! I'm hesitant to make a dedicated journals section here because I don't want anyone getting in trouble. I think I'll email one of the nurse faculty at EC to see what she has to say.

I think that sounds like a plan Lunah.:)

However when and if a Jornnal File and Journals would be posted someone is going to have to go in and make sure they adhere to EC Policies. Students that pass or fail clinicals are so excited ( for the lack of words) and sometimes they don't realize what they are posting. As for EC making sites or people yank things...Look what they did to Lynn and I....We had to change the names of our original workshops because EC trademarked "CPNE". Even though it was a real pain where the sun doesn't shine...they were right.

Yeah ... the answer I got was simply a reiteration of "no more journals on EC's site, no further guidance." Whatever. I think we can just let people post them if they wish in a new thread. I don't want to have to police people's journals if I don't know the parameters!

I understand Lunah....way back when the Dino's ( you and I) roamed EC land,:lol2: EC didn't have the Academic Honesty Policy. I would at least put out a warning...like a disclaimer type thing. Reminding students that wish to post their CPNE ™ experiences to keep in mind the EC Academic Honesty Policy. EC does have staff that monitors this site, the yahoo sites, Facebook sites ect.... Does the staff of allnurses.com have auto-post capabilities? If yes maybe something could be auto posted monthly to remind students...just a thought. I moderate 3 sites.... 2 that the messages have to be released and one I have to go in and check/police that have instant posts like allnurses...and it's no picnic. But I do use bi-weekly and or monthly auto posts to help when it comes to topics like this. But it's allnurses.com's call. Hope you have a great day!:)

Hahaha, you are too funny! Of course EC has always had the policy, but I guess they didn't apply it to the journals like they do now (which is totally supposition on my part, as I don't really know why they were removed). Will discuss it with the fabulous allnurses site admins for input and consensus. :) Like I said, I don't want any students getting into trouble if EC would prefer that we don't share the specifics of our CPNE experiences from here forward. Thanks for your input, t-lo!!
