Excelsior Anatomy and Physiology Exam Advice

I am a total newbie here and I apologize if some of my questions sound stupid.

So I have to take the Excelsior Anatomy & Physiology exam (Exam 506) in less than two months. I am not in a nursing program or anything like that. I just need this 6 hours credit for some other program that I am applying to, which happened to be same for many of you guys. I have purchased the "Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology by Martini/Nath" along with some DVDs and Course guide that was suggested when I was applying for the exam. However the book is very thick and I dont think I can finish it and also have time to review if I want to read every details. Also I think there are way too much information in the book than I need to learn. I purchased the practice exam too, and took the first set of 100 questions. I would like to know what is the best note/study guide/book out there that can prepare me for this exam within this short time period that I have? I have heard about cliff notes, lisa Larend's notes, Anatomy & Physiology ECE, and some others but I dont know which one is the best so I really appreciate it if someone could help me out here.

i used study group 101 and cliff notes for a&p and got a b.

also get on vangonotes.com and look up the martini/nath book and you will get downloadable audio lectures that goes with the text! I loved it! totally helped seal in the info for me!

i used study group 101 and cliff notes for a&p and got a b.

i used similar resources, study group 101 and anatomy and physiology for dummies, and got an a. study group 101 is very good! if i had to pick the best resources (i used a few), they would be the studygroup101 notes and the practice tests that excelsior offers.

you can do it in a fairly short amount of time using what you have+sg101, i would say. i studied off and on for a few weeks, but really buckled down for about a few days using mostly those resources.

i used read please text-to-speech software (http://www.readplease.com/) to go through the study guide notes. there is a free version. that way, the info was going in my ears and eyes.

thanks everyone for their suggestion. I went and bought the study group 101 study guide. It looks pretty good. I hope I can get A or B on this exam.

I have noticed that some of the topics and keywords mentioned in the Martini/Nath text book arent in the studygroup101. Should I just stick with the study guide since a lot of people mentioned getting A and B by studying only the materials from studygroup101?

I only opened the textbook to look up a few key things. If you are diligent about going through the studygroup101 stuff, you should be ok.

Chapter 1: Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology

A&P is A&P, so it covers the same stuff. Pearson publishes Martini's book, but you have pay for their online extras. I used some of the quizzes from Hole's (published by McGraw-Hill & free).

Thank you so much for the advice, one more question (sorry :confused: ). Based on the practice exam, I have noticed that most of the questions are from the physiology aspect of the materials. I couldnt find that many anatomy questions (like knowing the name of certain bones and muscles). Is this true on the actual exam? should I focus more on the physiology part?

Academic honesty prohibits us from discussing exam content, but I will say that I found it pretty true to the exam content guide's outline -- you should definitely use that as part of your studying. Good luck!!

Hi Saice! I'm so glad that there is a supportive nursing community like this one for all of us! Im highly considering taking the same exam you just did to get 6 credit units. Did you end up doing alright ?(I hope you don't mind me asking) I also need to pass with at least a B. How long did you study for? And did all those study guides help more than the text book that was recommended? Id like to take the exam in the beginning of August or sooner and an deciding between taking a trad summer class or the exam.Thanks so much!

is the study group 101 just reading or does it have illustrations and pictures? does it have questions like module format or just reading? Thanks!

there are pictures and there are quizzes with answers and some fill in quizzes - actually lots of practice questions in all of the study guides ive used so far
