Beginning Excelsior Journey--need suggestions for Transitions exam!

Nursing Students Excelsior

I've begun studying for Transitions with the content guide (my first exam with Excelsior). I was wondering if anyone has any advice regarding buying the "required" textbooks? Is it really necessary/beneficial? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion you do not need the required books for this. I have them and decided

after looking at SG101 study guide that it follows EC syllabus. I made a B on Monday, good luck!

I did invest in a nursing fundamentals book -- I wanted to make sure I had a good grasp of the material (i.e., I wanted to make A's!).

Thanks both! Is Transitions the right test to start with? Or do you have another suggestion?

I sent you a pm...........

IMHO: Follow the study guide - exactly, and yes I recommend using the suggested text-books. You can rent them at Bookrenter.com

Hi, as far as the right test to start with it depends on where you are at with credits, do you have Gen Eds to complete? You can always message an advisor on MyEC :nurse:

Be sure to buy the practice exams! Worth it for EVERY one... I used TCN module purchased on Ebay, and it seemed to follow the content guide. I also bought a Fundamentals text to read and keep. I got a SG101 disk for Transition and it was good, but harder for me to follow than TCN. A book I would highly recommend you get: 'Nursing in Today's World'. It is in the list of books, and it will definitely come in handy later... for the FCCA. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the advice. I will be taking transition to RN in January. Ive been using SG101 and intend on purchasing the study guide.

I just took this test on Friday. I used TCN study guide and the EC practice test. I know it was by the Grace of the Good lord....but I bought the practice exam a couple of months ago and completed part A. I didn't pick up any study material again until this past Sunday. I took practice test B and I brain loaded on both practice test breaking down each question and every rationale. I picked the rationales apart and used TCN study guide to expand the material. I passed with a B. I have registered for Life span and bought the practice test. I noticed when I was looking at the content guide that it also has around 35 practice questions and rationales....I'll definitely be utilizing them.

Hi. I found transition to RN very straight forward and dry. I made a C. I used SG101 and took only part A of the EC practice exams. Im quite sure if i studied a bit more and took part B of the EC practice exam l would have scored much higher. I wont make the same mistake with twice with Health safety. I have taken practice exam part A for health safety scoring a 55 with barely studying and fighting dry eyes. Time to buckle down.

I didn't use any books - although I did buy them - just studygroup101. You will need the nursing in today's world and fundamentals and medsurg for later exams though.
