Hi! I am a NICU/PICU RN with 11 yrs exp. and I am DONE with hospital nursing. I am looking into Legal Nurse Consulting or Life Care Planning for a new path to go down. I am wondering if anyone could give me some info on starting out in Life Care Planning- schools, start up cost, how to get hired/ can you have your own business? I am in my info gathering stage at this time. I would appreciate any words of wisdom! Thanks!

I have to say, I do not know very much about what a Life Care Planner does to get started etc. I hope we do hear from someone who has experience in this field. Perhaps there is a certification program available on the Internet that you might find by doing a Google search.

It is my impression that LCP's do have their own businesses. I always recommend starting with a Business Plan, getting together with local help is more useful, IMO, and networking. Again, I hope we can find someone here on AllNurses that you can network with.

I will be going to the VMI Conference in Las Vegas this month. Will I be seeing you there?

hey ya'll ive been recently looking at legal nurse consulting. what is life care planning? never heard of it before. i've been in the nursing field for 20 years in different areas. im ready to get away from bed side nursing too. it would be so great to talk to someone who is, or has done these business .

A Life Care Planner assess and evaluates costs to facilitate caring for someone through their life span. This kind of information may be helpful in filing a claim for loss of work or injuires.

Regarding Legal Nurse Consulting, there is an excellent Forum, here on AllNurses, that have many individuals who are currently working in the field. Here is their link:
