Thanks to Hoolihan and her indispensable brain, (hers works better on a regular basis than mine does!), per her suggestion, I am putting together a video demonstrating and describing foot care techniques on REAL FEET!!

My daughter will be helping me do this the first week of March--I am thinking that I'll include a brochure with the video..daughter, Kristin, can help me with that, too. She has had some experience with this type of thing. (Her brain works better than mine, too-thank goodness!)...I admit I'm kinda ignorant when it comes to producing and promoting this type of material. I am not certain if going into the particulars of this is appropriate for this Board.

So, I'll say that it will be available to any nurse who would be interested in it--perhaps I can offer it over Hoolihan's web site Nevertheless, it will be available by the middle of March of this year.

Let me know what you think of this idea. And, PLEASE, any and all suggestions regarding content of video and/or brochure will be most welcome!

Wonderful! I was thinking about you all day at work yesterday. I LOOOOVE feet. No it is not a fettish. But ya know I had been thinking just last week, "I just what to take care of my patients feet." There is a hospital here that has a nurse doing this in a clinic.

Foot care is such a neglected and imortant thing. And for some reason nurses don't do this. Or at least not a good job. For some reason!? Of course it is time. We are too bussy with the pills and IVs etc. That is one thing I loved about working nights as I sometimes had time to treat feet. I would start with a foot bath, actually washing with a little friction then a soak followed by what most would consider a long massage with a softening loation of my own..

Feet with very deep cracks that nothing seemed to change I did with this, one treatment was miraculous.

Two or more well....And as you know the effects last.. I have found it is the best way to connect with patients. You touch their soul. Honest no pun here.

Anyway I was thinking about you and started getting a thousands questions and wondered if you would answer. Please keep in touch and let me know when and how we will beable to see the video. I will gladly pay of course. Feel free to PM me.

Do you cut nails?

Hi, Agnus! Thank you for the suggestions- they will be included in my video.

Let me say now that we TRIM the toenails. CUTTING them is left to the podiatrists who bill this as a 'surgical procedure'. This is just another example where wording is EVERYTHING. Nurses don't CUT, they TRIM. They don't EXCISE the horny layers of corns and calouses, using razors or scapels in order to reduce them; rather, nurses SMOOTH them down using a mildly abrasive file. Everything in my equipment bag is found in drug stores or department stores, (except for 99% alcohol), and is readily accessable to the public at large. The same instruments my clients used when they were able to care for their own feet are the instruments I use. I do nothing for my clients that they wouldn't do for themselves if they could.

What 100% of my clients are unable to do is observe and assess their feet on a regular basis in a manner consistent with nursing practice and procedure. It is within this area of nursing care that foot care becomes more than just 'simple'. This often is the difference between a person with two legs and a person with one leg. A $20.00 prevention based procedure, versus a $68,000 ordeal which leaves a person disabled and, for the most part, dependent.

You have very good marketing skills. You solve a problem, dollarize the value of your service (in effect sell money), and use strong emoational apeal. Wish I had your skill.

Great news that you are making this video! I would be very interested in purchasing this...what a great idea for a home based business venture for a nurse! Hope you get LOTS of sales...thanks so much for sharing your expertise!! And of course, best wishes..you are a wonderful role model for us all! :)

I think some discretion in needed here. This is a comercially sponsored board and we need to respect that. Least Lois Jean be banned.

I agree I am greatful that you are willing to share your expertise and experience.

If you are persuing this as a commercial venture and it would be very appropriate to do so; we need move any promotion for it from the board before we loose touch.

Dahling, I am so surprised. I had no idea this was turning around in your brain all this time.It ios GREAT!! I want one too!!

As far as advertising it on my site, I can't. My site is free from yahoo,and it has no selling terms.

I am not sure how we can get the word out, but I'll think on it, and post if I come up w anything. Unfortunately there are practically NO free ways to asdvertise. Maybe you couod try Nursing spectrum?? Advance for nurses, one of those kinds of sites, and make up flyers and send them to vocational schools, where they train HHA's and nurses and sell it to them / Most of those kind of vidoes sell for around $300 a pop. See some sites for that kind of thing like Channing Bete, or In the Know. You couod make up a CEU on Foot Care and companies buy it to use for their aides. You make a nice price for writing the article and questions too. Nursing Spectrum PAYS for those CEU articles. Maybe you shouod do an article on how you started your own biz!!
