This happened last night at a local hospital where I have actually shadowed a couple of times.

I read this article & saw the man who decided to crash his truck into the hospital was waiting to be treated for CHRONIC back pain. As has been stated many times before, the ED/ER is NOT the place for chronic problems. That's what your primary physician is for. He should have been arrested for assault & endangering the life of his mother.

Got him in didnt it

I wonder what the outcome was after he & his mother were treated. Was his sorry a** hauled off to the hoosegow or what? I'd tube him just to make sure his airway stayed clear. Without sedation.

I checked into an ER recently; I knew my problem wasn't life-threatening, I also knew it was an appropriate use of the ER. (I had an abscess, and it definitely needed attention. Unfortunately, it was also a holiday weekend.)

I knew I'd have to wait, so I brought a book, a magazine, and a bottle of water. If the place had been totally jam packed, I might have just given up and gone home. I got lucky. I was called back in ?~an hour, and it was all over in ~ 2-3 hours. I can't complain about the wait, or anything else. I thought they did very well.

I absolutely cannot stand it when people come in for things like " I threw up once yesterday" or "I have a toothache". Then after we have them fill out a quick history/complaint form and they wait for an hour, they come up and start on one of their rants (usually swearing is involved) about "I was here before that person...." and it makes you want to tell them off. It's like, HELLO, that person has a GUNSHOT wound and you think that your little sore throat is more important? We had to call security on many people last night. It is amazing how those uniforms quiet people down.
