The need to move

Specialties Emergency

I am thinking of moving within the next few years. The problem is my husband and I can not agree on which state to move to. I am an ER nurse that wants to work in a Trauma ER. It also hase to be warm year round. My question is, what is the pay scale for these areas for ER nurses. Help me convince my husband to move to a warm climate. I currently live in upstate NY and HATE it. Please Help me.

Texas is a great state to live in. As with every other state there is a big need for qualified nurses, especially a specialty area like ER. It's always warm in Texas and there are lots of big cities to choose from where you will get your share of trauma. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, etc.... The cost of living will be at least half of what it is in NY and of course your pay will be about half. I think you would make anywhere from 40,000-50,000/year depending on you experience.

Don't know what part of Texas you live in, but I live in The Panhandle. It snows for several weeks q winter, there is no nursing shortage in this area and wages are low.

I moved here from central AZ, where it is warm in winter and HOT in summer. Many nursing jobs that pay well in the Tucson and Phoenix areas.

My husband and I have moved 4 times in about 5 years. I have worked in San Antonio TX, Columbia, SC , Tacoma WA and now back to Lubbock TX. I have found that overall everything is the same. The pay all equals out in the long run. I made about 8 dollars more an hour working in Washington State, but our mortgage payment was about 600 more dollars per month. Here in Lubbock you can get a brand new 2000 square foot house for 100,000 to 115,000 dollars. Texas has 2 seasons, hot and cold so if you are looking for warm all year round this is not the place! The people make up for the weather..as do the beautiful West Texas sunsets! Again, the pay has been comparible to cost of living in all areas of the country.

Florida? We need nurses! Especially good ER nurses. I work in a very busy ER (100,00 visits/year-Level II trauma center) Pay is 19-25/hr. I've only been there 2 years, so I'm at the bottom of that scale, but I work lots of overtime and made 48K last year.
