Gift to nurse?

Hello, I am currently a firefighter entering the Emt field very soon. A few months back I was injured during training. I was brought to the emergency department for evaluation. I was told that my injury would keep me sidelined for a while. The nurse I had while in the emergency department was absolutely amazing. She was caring, thoughtful and wonderful in general. I did not get a chance to thank her for all she did for me while I was in the emergency department. I am finally back on my feet and wanted to know if it would be appropriate for me to bring her a thank you gift even tho it has been a few months. I was thinking of bringing her a card and a shirt from my department. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you for your time.

aww! Seriously, a thank you card is plenty. We rarely see them. If you feel the need to buy an item, I'd say a small box of chocolates or something. Really just the card makes us feel great that we were enough to be remembered by a patient.

I like the idea of a card and your department shirt, but maybe something that she can share with the rest of the staff....chocolate

Frankly, the best thing you can do to show your appreciation is to write a letter to the hospital administration about the excellent care she gave you and how impressed you were with her. Whenever people (clients) ask me how they can thank me, I always tell them, "Tell my boss." All hospitals track that sort of thing, and some hospitals have programs where and the nurses get some kind of formal recognition or gift for that kind of recognition for good service.

I agree with the posts above, but I love that you thought of a t-shirt from your dept. I'm proud of my EMS, FD, and PD t-shirts.

Second the T-shirt idea! we have a very close relationship with EMS, PD and firefighters. Also second the chocolate to share... :-)

I agree, tell her boss! That is the best way to thank her. A card and a shirt are nice ideas, too.

On a side note, as a person with dietary restrictions, I find it frustrating when people bring in cookies and cakes and chocolates and other food treats that I can't eat, so just from my own personal standpoint, I wouldn't recommend food treats. Except maybe some good, high quality coffee. The hospital provides us with free coffee, but it is swill.
