Yeah, but in Florida you don't have to pay state income tax!
Go see how your salary compares...go to salary.com and you'll see why when you only make 50,000/year in Florida, that
is the same as $70,000 in Atlanta or $80,000 in California - it's all about cost of living.
I can tell you my staff RN's here in South Carolina only make $21-22/hour or so, BUT, our property taxes are LOW, we only pay 5% state sales tax and so on and so forth.
Compare this to a RN working in New Jersey who pays $1,200/month
rent for a 1 bedroom townhouse!... my MORTGAGE in South Carolina is only $500/month!!!

Well I am in Florida, on of the well known low pay states. So others might know where I come from. My facility over the last few years is/has improved in nurse recognition- in fact we have ANCC site visit for Magnet in a couple weeks. But they pay the market- so you not going to make much more anywhere else in the area. A surprise would be to jump above the heard. Though I do understand that management on a department level has little control over nurse wages.
