Quick DNP Comment/Question

  1. Will DNPs walk into the exam room and say "Hello Jimmy, I am Dr. Smith"???

I guess MDs are doctors of medicine and DNPs are doctors of nursing so it'd seem somewhat appropriate although not traditional.

DO's don't specify what they are a doctor of. I guess as a patient I'd expect to be introduced specifically the first time (doctor of xxxx) and then just refer to them as Dr. Smith from then on.

this has been debated several times recently... i would search for "dnp" in the title... you will find lots and lots of info.

Tradition has a way of conceding to the dynamics of society. A few years ago, you would never think to greet your dentist by asking, "How are you today Dr. Smith?"--you would just say, "Howdy Smitty, Hows my favorite barber doing today?"
