I'm an LPN with DaVita. Benefits are good. Teamwork depends upon your facility, salary is probably below par. Management talks about the amazing bonuses. You have to be there a while to partake of that benefit. I've been here 13 months, still haven't seen any bonus money. But, I do like it here. There are worse jobs ~ LOL!!!! Best of luck to you in whatever employment decision you make.

I too would like to work for Davita upon graudation as a LPN while I work on my RN.

FLPDLPN, could you tell me if you applied through Davita's website, or did you contact someone from the clinic directly? Also, how long did your training with them last, and was it all day 5 days a week, or their 12 hour shifts?

Thanks!

Vonda, I applied thru the CareerBuilder dot com site. There was a position advertised. My training was quite extensive. I initially trained on the hemo side (for about 2 months), doing three twelve hour shifts. I then transferred over to Peritoneal Dialysis, where I am currently employed. After transferring I was trained by a Preceptor at another facility for two weeks, trained on site by my manager and attended a week long training program in Houston, Texas. The training is excellent. Best of luck to you.

Kimmy ~ CONGRATULATIONS ON

Davita is my employer. I agree what the others said. The pay could be higher. The benefit package could be better...no contribution from they toward a pension...I think that is something to consider if you are going to work for many yrs to come...BUT, as with everything....it is what you make of a job, what you want, what hours you want to work, is it close to your home, do you even need benefits or does your spouse have them, they have a school you can go to through the company that is excellent...so you can get trained properly. I was trained on a shift that was high stress and that I was never going to work on. I also think that 12 hours are way too much for a training day....and you have to get time to do your workbooks OFF the floor to learn. Ask questions, take notes...and it will come together.
I personally like dialysis so I am willing to trade certain things...I have learned a lot, it wasn't easy.
The "team" thing, depends on the unit for sure. The FA's can't always do what they want with their unit...so a few "bad eggs" are allowed to ruin it. I am a totally positive person, a very hard worker...and Lord knows I am trying to make a difference not only with the patients, who have all my compassion, but with the employees. My FA is nice, the staff leaves a little to be desired.
I think any person can make the job what they want....training is just that...when you are on your own, have a little confidence, you can make the job a positive experience.
It is an area of medicine that has always had my interest. So many details, the meds, the diet, the patient is yours for a long time, you get to know them. I like dialysis in spite of it all.
Investigate...then decide. I think it is better than a lot of other areas.
Good luck ...

Any info on the Twin Cities (Mpls/St Paul) Davita centers? I have an interview with them this week, and have heard a horror story from a friend of mine who was hired and worked 14 hours her first day - not for me, I'm trying to get away from 12 hour shifts.

Thanks for any info/advice!

Everything you all say is true. I Love the job itself, people...well people are people wherever you go. Good and Bad! My boss seems great, hours could be better but time will tell. At least though, I am getting comfortable now with the job itself, and I am sure everything else will fall together on its own. I just love reading what everyone has to say, Thankyou

Some of the Davita units are working 13.5 hour shifts, no choice. So check it out. We had one girl give notice and we have only been doing it 2 weeks. It's not for everyone, not for me either. If you hear a horror story, beware!
