Haven't been there in a while, so I'm not sure if they have the job openings or not, but they should have a link to them.
CristiApr 6, '05The website is ww.bop.gov
I am a BOP nurse, and I would be glad to answer any questions I can for you.

Can I ask where? One of my EMTs went to a BOP facility in Galveston or somewhere around Houston. She was excellent. I would do anything to have her back... If only I could offer her pay comparable to the feds!
(I am in Lubbock, but oversee multiple private medical facilities in TX, NM, AZ, and FL.) We have two private BOP facilities. One is in Pecos, TX & Post, TX. They are a little harder to get used to when compared to our state and county facilities.Apr 8, '05Quote from BSNinTXDoes the BOP use LPN/LVNs ?The website is ww.bop.gov

BOP has facilities in both Beaumont and Houston, but the medical care in Beaumont is contracted to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
Do you (or your company) work with the folks at Reeves? We get inmates from there at times. Does your company work with the INS facility in Raymondville?
Yes, Federal inmates are, well, "special."

Yes we do the medical care at both Reeves Co. & Raymondville.
The Raymondville facility is extremely nice and we have a really good medical staff. It was just built about a year or two ago so it's a lot nicer than some of our older facilities. I got to go there a few weeks ago to help them prepare for an upcoming ACA audit.
I haven't been to RCDC for a couple of years now. The other corporate RN oversees both RCDC & Raymondville, so I only go if they ask me to.
We also have another INS facility in Chaparral, NM, just North of El Paso. It is in the process of expansion. I oversee it as well as various other facilities in Texas. It is also preparing for ACA.
I try to take on the ACA & NCCHC facilities and she handles BOP and JCAHO. Wouldn't trade for the world! LOLAug 25, '05http://www.usdoj.gov/06employment/index.html
This is the department of justice website. You can look for jobs by state or job title.Aug 26, '05www.bop.gov is the offical website of the prison.
www.usajobs.opm.gov is the government's job site. Do an advanced search, enter 0610 as the series number, and scroll down in the agency section to Department of Justice. You can even narrow to a geographic area if you would like.

We are privately contracted in the prison that I am with in Missouri. I was just wondering who provided your mental health services and how big that staff is? Do you have an RN that deals with the psychotropic meds and orders etc?Dec 29, '05We have 3 clinical psychologists (doctorally prepared) on staff, and a contracted psychiatrist who comes about once per month and available by phone to give orders. Day to day, our physician and the psychologists handle monitoring and such.
Our facility is a 1500 inmate low security institution; some institutions have a larger or small complement of psych staff based on size, security, and need.
We have a lot of people on psych meds, and whoever is doing pill line passes those; we do pill line 4 times per day, with a PA or RN doing it at 6 AM and 8 PM, and pharmacy staff doing it during the midday passes. Again, this varies by institution.
In the federal system, there are several medical facilities, and these handle inmates who need closer psych supervision; at these facilities RNs are specifically hired into psych nursing (versus outpatient and skilled long term care).
