I enjoy it so far. But then again, I have just started.
I enjoy the autonomy I have, I enjoy being able to complete my work, I enjoy the co workers (although I do not enjoy all the complaints~ but I guess that'll be everywhere, eh?).
I do not enjoy having to have a key to every door I need to enter, or having to wait for guards that do not seem to want to stay at their appointed post.
Nor do I enjoy co workers that do not care, nor have any inclination of caring, or those that leave things a mess for the oncoming shift.

More later, I guess!

I love it! I know I may sound like a freak- but I feel like a make a difference every single day; even if they are criminals. Sometimes the nurses are their only true advocate in the world. I enjoy the teaching the most- to help them understand what is going on in their body.

But then you have a few perverts, truely dangerous/scary people, and jackers.

I'd say 90% of the prison population are those who are just doing their time and repaying their debt to society. It's the other 10% that are scary.

The biggest pain are when there is an emergency. The security is top-notch, so it takes a while to get them shipped out. The squad has to come through the sally port to be searched, the inmate needs to be strip-searched and put into a jumpsuit, etc. It feels like an enternity when you have someone stabbed, having an MI, etc. But the protocals are there to keep the community, staff, and inmate safe.

And then you get a cocky officer who questions your judgement. I have to bite my tongue not to tell them to get a degree and practice for a few years. I try not to get on their bad side as they are the ones who truely protect us if there is a disturbance. It's a fine line that has to be walked everyday.

The keyed entry at every door gets old, too.

Is your work schedule flexible? I submited my ap. I was wondering if I'll be able to continue to go to school because I don't know how flexible they are? Any idea?

My boss is very flexible with my school schedule. He has never complained about me needing a change and is very accomodating.
I'm sure yours would be the same... go for it!
