Nvcc pre-reqs

U.S.A. Connecticut

I found (finally) pre reqs offered at a time when I can take them. Specifically at nvcc on Sundays. Since I was previously a student at ncc I had to apply to nvcc and have to register as a new student. New student registration isn't available for another 2 weeks or so... Anyone know how quickly this particular section fills up? I know Sunday classes are rare and I'm assuming they're pretty popular for those of us who work during the week... I'm worrying it don't stand a chance of getting a seat. Anyone know if this section fills up quickly or not? I'm looking at chemistry this fall. Thanks!

I worked full time while attending school full time (both times, LPN school and LPN to RN school). Even when I was home, I really wasn't home per se. Homework, care plans, studying for tests etc all took up the time I had while I was out of school and work. My kids and husband are no worse for the wear :)

When I started LPN school my little one was just almost through 1st grade and my other one was almost done with her sophmore year in high school. Between LPN school and RN school, I was taking pre-reqs for the RN program. Five years I graduated from my LPN program I began my LPN to RN program. It actually brought us closer together as a family. My kids realized how important an education is and we often studied together. The times I was 'free' we did things as a family. Even if it was just board game night or popping up some popcorn and watching a movie together. My husband picked up a lot of the slack for me. He not only did what he normally did but he also picked up the things I normally did. He was my rock and my cheerleader my entire journey from beginning to end. Even now, I'm back at it..RN to BSN classes. its commonplace for my kids now. They are fine with it.

You're overthinking it. If you have a support system you've cleared one of the biggest hurdles :)

This is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Thank you so much.

I also worked full-time during nursing school, and now I work two jobs and go to school on-line for my MSN. Are there things I have missed? Sure. I'll have guilt for the rest of life over missing one of my kids' first day of kindergarten, I've missed dozens of soccer games, baseball games, dance classes, school activities. Yes, I have. But, my kids know that when I'm home, I'm all theirs. I'll drop everything and play a game, read a book, whatever they want. (Usually I don't have the computer on, but they're finishing a TV show before bed) I've done what I've done so I can be sure that I can support them as best as I can. I'm fortunate that my husband is home and takes care of most things around the house. You can do it, and it's worth doing. You'll be fine. Good luck.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm feeling much better about my decision. :)

Update... I had been pushing myself to try to finish my general studies degree online before finding the Sunday classes. I didn't think nursing was an option for me so that was my way of trying to distract myself and at least finish my degree...

My classes ended Sunday and rather than take more and waste more money on it, I'm taking a break until Chem starts in the fall.

Now I'm worried tho. I took on too much this past session and my GPA plummeted. The classes are 8 weeks long and I took two at a time. That's full time school on top of full time work. Throw in a couple of holidays where I worked over time - it was a disaster. I got a c+ and a d+. Neither class counts toward nursing but I know the ccs require you to send in all your transcripts. Will my poor grades coupled with the fact that I online college hopped to find the right fit be used against me?

I don't think so. It isn't like BHSN where they base it on an essay, and your character etc. Your acceptance is strictly based on the GPA from the classes that the CC's require, your A&P I score, and your TEAS school (and having everything in on time, of course). They will only look for the classes that count. Make sure you send in those transcripts though! If they find out later on that you did not, you could be dismissed from the program.

So I guess that rules out bhsn. I'm guessing that my college hopping would be a huge red flag....
