A&P Pre-reqs and CCCOnline class

U.S.A. Colorado

Hello,

I am trying to register for A&P I this summer. I would like to take both I and II online with CCCOnline. Has anyone been able to sign up for A&P with CCCOnline if you didn't have the BIO pre-reqs? I REALLY want to take the classes so that I am finshed by December with both courses, but I haven't had BIO since high school. :( I have contacted a Biology professor at my local community college who says I MUST take the pre-req course.

Or, if you took a placement exam to get into the A&P course, would you mind sharing with me what you were tested on?

Thanks in advance!!!

You purchase a lab kit for each class, which does in fact have dissection specimens in it. I did a sheep heart, cow eyeball and a fetal pig in AP 1&2. You follow the lab manual, do up a lab report and are tested on what you learned. I loved it! The cow lens was super cool, but I think I was the only one in the house that thought the pig was fascinating. I think we ate out that night! lol

Yep Labs are out of a kit. Sand_Dollar...how bad was the formaldehyde smell?

orchid - That stuff was NASTY! I wore my goggles mostly to alleviate the sting. The pig was the worst, probably because of the size. I always had to take a shower after too, it was in my nose and I could smell it everywhere.

Wonderful :uhoh3: Did you disect the pig in A&P I or II? My husband said to me "are we suppossed to keep it in the refrigerator until your pig lab?" I laughed, but then realized how realistic of a question it was.

We used the pig throughout AP2. In AP1 you get to do a sheep brain which was interesting and the cow eyeball which was super cool. AP2 you do the pig, along with a sheep heart and kidney.

And your husband is right, you have to keep it in the fridge. It comes in a plastic shoebox thing with a soft liner so you can use it for your dissection space. I just kept all the specimens in the box and we have an extra fridge in the garage, so I kept it all out there. I kept forgetting about it and didn't throw that poor pig away until near Christmas (I took AP2 in the summer)!

Oh, in AP1 you get a cool skeleton about 24", I have mine near my desk right now. His name is Achmed, after Achmed the terrorist. (Big Jeff Dun-ha-ham fan here)

Haha you are too funny! I think it might be time for us to invest in a garage fridge....

Thanks for all the help!!

Was the lab kit costly, if you don't mind me asking?

Not at all aschaffer! To be honest, they were expensive. AP1 cost $239, while AP2 cost $285. You also have to have a 600x microscope which I had to buy. But, I was able to use it for Bio, both APs and Micro. And, I will be passing it on to my daughter who will be taking the same classes in the next year or two.

Although they are expensive, they are very well put together. In micro I had lots of agar left over and I never ran out of supplies in any kind. Well....that's not entirely true. I was careless and spilled a beaker full of sediment we were supposed to separate for Chem. I was able to get a replacement set sent to me...20$, ouch. This was my only oops. Micro included things like test tubes and holders and even e-coli (could have taken that from my fridge! lol) Chem had different chemicals and all of it. I kept all my extras from old kits because I hate throwing out good science equipment (home school Mom talking) And when it came to micro, rather than doing something twice and comparing, I would do them side by side, because I had extra supplies from an old class. AP1 and 2 also gives you a nice set of dissection tools, pins and of course gloves, goggles and a gown.

The lab manuals are excellent and the labs are very well thought out. The only downside is the cost, but then again, I got to do my labs in my Jammies if I wanted. hehe

Thanks for all the great info Sanddollar!:yeah:

Orchid09, I just enrolled in the API with CCConline for this summer. Have you heard from anyone else about this course since you posted back in March? This is the only class I'm taking this summer, but from reading all of these posts, I'm getting more nervous... I really need to ace this class. Would you be interested in a study buddy? The beautiful summer weather can be so distracting, but if we keep each other on track, we can definitely ace this course (or at least I hope so!). There is another member who wants to review API materials too.

I took them all online, but I did have to take Bio 105 as a pre-req to AP. I took AP2 during the summer along with Micro and Psych. It was a lot during the summer, but I did fine. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them for you. :)

Hey! I was wondering if the midterm and final exams for A&P2 were questions taken from the quizzes throughout the course? I am trying to figure out the best way to study for them. Thanks!
