Denver School of Nursing-January 2015 Start

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

Hey there! I just applied to the DSN BSN completion program for January, 2015 start date. Was wondering if anyone else has applied or will be applying to DSN? I live in Oregon and would have to move to Colorado, but if I get my BSN out of the process I will be happy!

What were your pre-reqs though? Like did you have all A's in the pre-reqs?

Good luck!

No, I didn't have all As in my prereqs. I had a couple Cs mostly Bs and a couple As. I thrive with my hands, which is the downside to doing all the remedial stuff first.

I didn't get accepted for the January cohort. :( but congrats to everyone who did!! That's so exciting. I'm pretty sure I didn't get in because I have no medical or volunteer experience. I am probably going to get my CNA next semester. Do you think that will help my chances? My GPA is a 3.0 which I realize isn't the best either.

Hi everyone. Congratulations to everyone who got an interview. I can relate the anxiety of waiting for that email informing me I could move forward with the application process. It was a relief to know that I was able to have that interview.

I just had my interview last week for the October ADN start this year. I was debating whether or not to put in an application for the Jan BSN start date. But I didn't want to go through the stress of worrying on how competitive the BSN program is at DSN. I just wanted my RN and be done with it. I have dealt with rejection after rejection before from different schools because I wasn't competitive enough. So I made the decision to apply for the ADN program where I knew I had a better chance of getting accepted. I asked my advisor at DSN if the BSN was competitive and the moment I heard that word, yes, I knew my path was to go for the ADN program.

I have a 2.8 GPA, BA in Psychology, and 10 years experience in the medical field. I don't have Patho or Nutrition and honestly did not want to take it elsewhere then come to find out I didn't make the cut for the BSN program. I knew I couldn't handle the rejection anymore.

I understand that most hospitals require BSN for the RN positions. But I figured, in my situation, it would be easier to get into the ADN program and then do an RN-BSN bridge, than getting accepted into a BSN program. I know the tuition is pretty high. But the RN's I have worked with who have gone to for-profit schools were able to pay their school loans off within 1-2 years. If the BSN route is for you then definitely go for it. You don't want to have any regrets later on once you're in. But if you're in my situation then maybe the ADN route is a viable option. I know I will face some struggles finding a job once I'm done but I'd rather have my RN already and able to take any work than be in my current financial state struggling while waiting for a BSN program to accept me. Good luck everyone.

Hi, future fellow nurses. I'm brand new to allnurses.com.

Do the general education courses (22 credits) need to be completed before applying or just the main nursing prerequisites? Thank you. I've heard so many BAD reviews of DSN but it sure sounds like the way to go. I live over an hour away from DSN and would have to commute...thinking of applying for October 2015 start (BSN completion)!

Thanks, ladies!!

Megan,

I did not get accepted into the October Cohort (i got accepted as an alternate) because i didn't have a CNA. Call and ask what you can do. Jeff told me to get a CNA. I Jumped on an 8 week hybrid course with Red Rocks Community College in Arvada and sent in my school schedule. I discovered that my cumulative gpa was a 2.98 after my semester last year.

I just got my acceptance for January yesterday. I had to wait too, and i would def try to get a CNA, even though it isn't required, everywhere is requiring one pretty much now days, even if they "say they aren't" because they score your application.

Good luck to you, and i want you to know, that i was in your same boat! GO DSN APRIL FOR MEGAN4

Thanks, ladies!!

I applied with one full time semester left, once completed i sent in my transcript.

I work in hospitals and i meet so many nurses who went to DSN, and so far i have only heard only good things. All nursing schools are going to have something that sucks, but i really think its how we look at it. and what we learn from it.

good luck, and i would email them, about your courses, they are really great about offering advice for the application process, and they respond promptly!

Hello everyone! I am applying for the April 2015 start date for BSN completion program! I start my CNA classes in January and it ends in February. Is my chance of acceptance pretty low because I don't have it completed now? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Well, it's not a requirement to have your CNA..it definitely helps, but depending on your other stats you may be okay already. I don't have my CNA, but I graduated with a BS and a minor this spring (and have done a ton of volunteering) and I have an interview for the Jan 2015 start in October. So, your CNA isn't like the deal maker/breaker, I think they are just looking for all your efforts as a whole package, and if having your CNA makes your application package even better, more power to you! But good luck to you getting your CNA and with applying for April, hope that helps :)

Okay great! Thanks so much, you've been a huge help. I do have some medical experience, so hopefully it will help me out! Do you remember how many weeks it took to hear back on your acceptance(interview)?

For me, I found out at six weeks on the dot from the application deadline. Others found out within the week following the six week mark. However, the email was received by my junk mailbox, so keep an eye out for it there!

Hi everyone . My name is Arame. I too applied for the BSN completion starting In January and have an interview scheduled for October. Very nervous about it and also moving to denver thing if I get it .. Anyone has any tips for the interview

Emjay I'm applying for April 2015 BSN too! I just sent my application off this morning. eeeek!! Congrats to all those on this post that got accepted. So is it still true if you get an interview you are in as long as you pass the HESI entrance?
