Cancelled PPCC Nursing Info Session Today

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

I just called PPCC and they stated they cancelled the nursing info session for today. I'm going to go still just in the case this was false information (I can never seem to get a straight answer out of those people). I have a lot of questions so if they did cancel this session I guess I'll just go ask them in the office. Did anyone get any notification of the cancellation? No e-mails, phone calls, letters, nothing for me. Just curious.

I bet they canceled it because of the snowstorm. It should hit the Springs in a matter of hours. Its already hit Denver and on its way. Be careful if you go there.

I will be careful but I can't imagine it's going to be that bad. It's still 30 out which means it isn't going to freeze, there are no winds and where PPCC is we are only supposed to get about 3 inches. I called in sick to work today just to go to this meeting. I will be really upset if they don't have it at 2 and it doesn't snow by them. They are the last school to go on delay even if there is a bad snow storm.

Wow, you're lucky! I'm in Pueblo and they said 8-12 inches is on the way, although its in the 40s here - go figure (and we always get less than around us). I don't figure it will be that much anyway, but friends of ours up north in Erie have already had 7" since this morning. I've been keeping an eye on the webcams to see how its moving and it wasn't at Monument Hill an hour ago, but its white now. cotrip.org is great to watch the weather on their traffic cams.

Do be careful CalebMommy, people seem to lose their minds when it snows and just don't think its slippery. You should see what its like when it snows in Seattle - now THAT is crazy! lol

As I was pulling in the school parking lot at 12noon (right when the first flakes were coming down) the announcer on the radio said PPCC was closing, at noon!!! LOL! They are going to reschedule the meeting but I was lucky to run into one of the nursing program counselors and got some more information. She said they sent 190 letters out to the people on the waitlist and they are filling 90 slots. Those are much better odds than I was anticipating! She also said since this is a military town she is sure some people have moved away. She also said that some people who got on the waitlist are going to wait until Fall 2010 to apply because it's just too soon and they were expecting to wait longer. She also said that because people are going to be taking the CNA class that will weed out people. She also said they are NOT taking anyone who has had a D or an F in a biology class, like A&P I and A&PII in the last 7 years for fall 2009 and spring 2010 and she said that would weed out a LOT of people. I guess they get a lot of people who go to the university who fail their A&P class there and then go to PPCC to get a better grade. So, my suggestion is, everyone who got a letter (they are not accepting anyone else at this point) try and apply! They are taking the TEAS into consideration too so start studying! There is a good chance we will make it into the program and remember, in order to turn your application in by April 13th, you need to have your background check DONE, COMPLETE, FINITO! They are taking about 4 week to get the FBI check done so I'm hoping you all turned them into CBI already? Maybe we'll all be in the same class but I hope to see you soon!

Sanddollar - Are you going to Pikes Peak Community College in the Springs or Pueblo Community College in Pueblo?

That's great news CalebMommy, you got your own info session, lol - I wish you the best of luck!

I'm in Pueblo for now but we actually have our house in Brighton. My hubby is building the power plant down here, but its almost over and we should be back home in the summer. I am registered through PCC, but doing everything via CCCOnline, very handy for me since I still homeschool. I am going to be applying to the Denver School of Nursing in July for their January BSN cohort. The cost is a killer, but waiting 2-3 yrs to get into FRCC is just ridiculous. And those new rules, especially having to be get your CNA, really frost me.

I do hope you let us know if you get in! :)

I've been using CCCOnline too. Love it! I love to do my own study schedule and be home with my son on the evenings and weekends. I currently work for a bank as my full time job.

Good luck to you too, I hear DSoN is a great school and if it wasn't for me being a single mother I would probably consider driving to Denver everyday so I could earn my BSN!

Lucky for me, I have already taken the CNA class because I wanted to make sure I would love nursing and I do! I think the counselor I met up with thought I was insane running through the snow to catch someone before everyone left!

Anyway, let us know when you start DSoN and I will let you know after this crazy waitlist stuff is over and the real craziness of nursing begins!

Good luck to us all!

What classes have you taken through ccconline? I have done Eng 121, Bio 105, and taking Bio 201, Chem 101 and HWE 101 right now. I'll be taking Bio 204, Bio 202 and Psy 101 this summer with Mat 121, Psy 235, Mat 135 and Eng 122 this fall. Have you taken any that I haven't yet? Its always nice to get a heads up on what they are like. I think you have gotten more done than I have, but if there are any that I've taken and you haven't I'll be glad to give you a heads up on those.

I will definitely keep you posted, its nice to know others out there are going through the same thing your going through.

The only classes that I've taken through CCCOnline are Psy 235 - Developmental Psych and it was a really fair class. Not too hard but it did make you work for your grade. I took Micro and that was a tough, tough class. I made a B but it was hard because we had at least two experiments that we had to do at home that required some type of incubation (we had to make an incubator to use at home too). Then, the instructor wouldn't tell us how the experiment was supposed to turn out such as color, consistency, etc. Then, if it didn't turn out for some reason you didn't have enough of anything to start over from the kit and didn't have enough time because you had to incubate the test tubes for 48 hours then transfer to an agar plate, etc. Tough class, I'm sure no one in my class made higher than a B. Oh, and if asked if a virus is alive, the answer is NO. I argued with the instructor on this and he was hard on me for the rest of the semester. Even if you disagree, or just want to be a devil's advocate, a virus is not alive. Hint, hint.

I also took A&PII through CCCOnline and that was a fair class. They provide you with a fetal pig and you make the dissections at home but they have a color workbook they provide with color pictures of the pig to tell you what you are supposed to be looking for. I made an A in the class though the average of the class was a C. This class goes fast but since you are used to CCCOnline I'm sure you will do fine.

The rest of my classes I've taken in the class setting. I haven't taken clinical calc or pathophys yet but that will be this summer and then all I have left is the actual nursing classes. After I take those classes I will start reading the textbook for Nursing Fundamentals and Med/Surg because I'm a nerd like that! LOL!

But, like I said, I'm sure you will do fine!

Ooh! The AP II class sounds like fun! I dissected a fetal pig in HS, can't wait to do another one, my kids will like it too. I am 'enjoying' the AP I class - a huge amount of work but tons of info too, 1000 points total when an exam is only worth 20, TONS of work! My labs are turning out to be 8 pages long!

Micro sounds tough - can you do the lab with only the lab manual? I have 3 weeks between semesters and I noticed in both Chem and API, I could have done the labs by following the manual and without having to be at the corresponding point in the book. It would just be nice to get them done early, what do you think?

I am looking forward to taking both in a 10 week semester, this 15 week one is killing me its so looonnngg. ugh. I would love to take patho, but with NS starting in Jan I will just have to do it then..bummer.

Oh I totally get it with reading early. I will have about a month between when my pre-reqs are over and start of classes, I want to get a book list and start reading too. I do that for fun, I need a life - lol!

not sure if anyone is still on this discussion? I was searching for info on the CNA class? wondering how hard is the Sat class? I just took Bio 111 and looking to continue with the prerequisites for nursing BUT have 2 little ones at home so trying to get the classes that take the least amount of time done now, then the harder ones when they are in school. I have taken A&P and psyc before when i got my bachelors but I need to take them again as it has been so long ago! In reading your responses I noticed you are taking some classes online. Just beware, I have heard on numerous occassions that many schools will not accept online lab classes!!!
