Admin, can you move this to "Collective Bargaining" thread?

I am in favor of employees paying for representation.

When we bargained our first contract at my hospital it had a grandfathered union shop. Those who were employed therr at the time the contract was ratified could choose whether or not to be a member and pay dues.

Nurses hired after that would be required to join. They would be informed about the union before being hired.

A good friend of mine had been against voting in the union, but chose to join so she could vote for officers and participate on committees.

For the people paid to care for family members I hope the contract includes higher pay than before the union was voted in. Then although the workers may not want to belong to a union they are not losing by having to pay union dues.

I am not in favor of forcing the workers providing disabilities services, under a separate branch of the Medicaid program who voted against being represented either by the Service Employees' Local 73 or Council 31 of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees, to belong to a union.

Harris vs. Quinn was already decided but it leaves Abood intact.

I am sorry. We are waiting on Friedrich's versus CTA which will affect public sector nurses.
