Walking out

Ok so here is my situation I worked my 12 hours I did everything I was supoused to well guess what the day shift that was supoused to come in after me those two didnt show. they are the most un reliable most tardiest most i dont even know what to say people I am so mad! I dont even see why they are still employed with the company one got fired and then they hired him right back well recently I have been so burnd out I have been working every weekend and every weekend is a disaster. its always this weekend that people decide not to show or they quit. well I waited for a half hour I called them I even texted them asking if they were going to show up. ones excuse will be "but I didnt know I was on the schedual" and the other ones "I was tired from my second job." well when people dont show I am the one it always seems like that has to stay over for atleast four hours and no more then that and it dont matter wheather it is the people on my hall or another hall. then after working a 16 hour shift I am expected to be back on time to start my next shift so I work 16 then get off I only sleep like 3 hours then have to be back for another 12-16 hours how do people do this! I think Im just more mad because I always have to stay no one else ever has too, its always me. and these people that dont show up never get in trouble they always have their job. last night the aide that was supoused to be working with me says no im going to go work with the other aide down the other 2 halls and I had politly asked if she could switch me because every weekend that I work I have to work down this hall I wanted to go work the other halls and she says no I have been down here the past 3 days. the nurse whent and talked to her and the other aide but there was really no luck. so anyway I also got told since I quit and walked out that I am going to loose my certifation in indiana well I was told as long as there was two other aides/nurses there that if I just left its not concidered abuse or neglect. the other 2 from night shift were still there when I left and the people that happened to show up for days plus one trainee showed up. I got home and texted the ADON and told her what had happend and that I was mad and frustrated more than any thing and that I know we all have to do it sometimes but it always seemed like I the one that always has to stay over and no one else. and that I know what I did wasnt right, and that I love my job and I depend on my job but I am just really mad that I always get the raw end of the deal. I told her the people of the names that didnt show too and that they were both schedualed down my hall to replace me.

I dont really now what to expect or do I just need some advice. I know that it is really scatter brained but I am just so mad right now at the whole situation and myself.

wow that is tough, and I have seen posts from you before, and I can tell you take your job seriously, and are very caring and hard working. I can not believe that no shows would not get into trouble especially making someone work 16 hrs because of them. Do you at least get overtime pay for those 4hrs? If the administration does not have better rules and regulations about no shows Id definetly start to look for a new job. That is abusing you as an employee for sure! I know it is tough out there to finding jobs, but maybe there is something out there that would not abuse your hard work, and let lazy cnas take jobs away from someone that would be more realistic and know how important their job truely is.

keep us informed and good luck

well the ADON told the charge nurse and my nurse that it was up to them whether I get terminated or not so I was told any attitude any lip any anything I was gone. but the other CNAs that night decided to be mad and stuff even after I apologised and left me by myself didnt help me didnt nothing so the nurse and the trainee nurse that night had to stop playing nurse and play aide and get the trashes and I&Os collected while I did last rounds on all the bed checks so day shift wouldnt be mad the nurse after that went down to the other halls mad at them because they wouldnt help me and told them that this wasnt going to happen again she told the charge nurse that she had senority and that what she says goes from now on and she wasnt going to play this crap anymore and that who ever is on the schedual fro this hall is who is schedualed on this hall an no one is getting moved from here and there that its not fair to the residents when my hall is always the bussiests at night (and I think the ADON will agree with her because the ADON has it schedualed this way for a reason because it takes more that one aide to do the hall I work).

at the begining of my shift my nurse told me to be the best aide I could be and to picture every resident as her and I joked and said Ok well you can set in your poop while I go smoke my first cigarett. I knew things were ok after she laughed and said to picture them as my grandparetns and I said ok whitch ones and shes like ok then as my grandparents and I said d@mn you got me there. she looked at the RT and said jokeingly isnt it like pulling teeth with him?

crazy place you work for. you were there for your 12 hours and if I remember right you said there was enough people to cover the halls even with the two no shows. so I am not sure why you got in that much trouble for? Did the no shows get there talking to as well? I think the head nurse is completely correct in that whatever hall people are asigned to is the hall they work that hall. People have to think of the residents and what is right and safe for them. Not who they do and do not like to work with. This is a an important job, not a high school popularity click with who you like to hang out with and dont hang out with. Well good luck with it hopefully things will start to smooth out

That said, careful about "walking out". Some places, if they want to be jerks could get you for patient abandonment if you do it during a shift. If you completed your scheduled shift, you are golden if they try to "force" you into another shift.

Also, they CAN work you 16 but not 24.

A lot of times, you do get this borderline abusive behavior from staffing DONS in high turnover, low morale facilities. Take it with stride and look for something else.
