Medtech?
Right now I'm pre-nursing at Ivy Tech in Ft. Wayne how ever I am very strapped for cash and all I qualify for are loans and I don't want to take out a loan until I M in the program and thats not a definite thing right now. How ever I go to med tech and ill be in the program if I score high enough on the TEAS and that I wouldn't mind taking out a loan if I was guaranteed a spot. But can I go from there to a university to get my BSN or MSN with out starting completely over. Say going from med tech to IPFW

has anyone else been in this situation (bashing please)
I talked to the nurse I worked with that night she said she remembers bits and pieces about it she always drowns out the QMA but to night I worked with another aide that I love working with we also went to high school together just didn't know each other (living in a small town is great!) but I had asked her if the QMA had ever said she was her favorite to work with because the QMA told me that I was her favorite and I was just curious because I felt that we were getting played so the aide I was working with texted her and asked and she got mad and told her that I was a trouble maker she also stated to the nurse that the boys meaning I and another worker always sit on our behinds and don't do jack when in fact I work circles around her and I can never find her because she is either in the bathroom or hiding some where. the only time I sit is when I cant find her and everything else is caught up and that can be done is done. we have all as a team effort given her rides to work due to her car being broke down so we wouldn't have to work by ourselves and what not. well I have decided she isn't getting anymore rides when I work with her she can find her own way because I can handle 19 people by myself as long as the nurse helps me when I need it. I also heard that she drives her car all around town so I think that since I am a trouble maker and a lazy bum she can get her butt to walking or she can get some one else to bring her to work or I can work on my own. but I think I am going to go talk to the DON because I'm done with working with her I want some change. I even told the staff that I worked with today that I was thinking about going to go get my QMA if I had to keep working with her just so when she brags about being a QMA or as she says it a QMA nurse I can be like haha so am I. I am pretty much the mature one I have to et bossy and mean just like to get stuff done when we work with her and I don't like that. LOL or better yet I'm not picking her up Monday when I have to go to work I'm not even going to pick her up my phone ran out of time today so I wont have a phone till pay day. I can be so vindictive :) sorry is I'm whiney I'm just fed up she's the only co worker I cant stand I get along with all my other co workers and we all love working with each other the DON has done a great job of getting together a team of nurses and aides just one bad apple with an orange center lol I have learned through advice on here in the past that people that judge in nursing are the one that aren't doing there work. and It is ever so clear to me now :)

can I obtain my work file from my first employer?
My first CNA job was in a vent facility in Indiana and it was awful so understaffed and over worked it almost ruined things for me. They paid me 10.75 an hour no over time and I have a lot of weeks when I worked over 40 hours or they forced me to. they terminated me for allegations of verbal abuse (they terminate everyone for that) I know I never verbally abused anyone plus by state law I was told they are supposed to call the police around the time it happens or when they are doing the investigations, so something does not add up to me! Any way the day after I was terminated I had to go in to sign a paper for why I was terminated I was stupid and should not of signed it but it said verbal allegations not verbal abuse allegations to me that says I never verbally abused any one. I had almost 36 hours of PTO time (paid time off) plus the over time hours. I asked "what about my PTO time?" I was told it says in the employee hand book that it is null and void upon termination. so I let it go but my over time pay I have been contemplating for a long long long time! so fast forward. about a month ago a nurse I worked with over there who always picked up hours worked her self in to the ground just to stay busy got fired for the same things and she asked the same thing I did what about the PTO time they gave her the same answer. she looked over the employee hand book and it said nothing in there at all about PTO time being null and void upon termination so she went and got a lawyer or talked to some government agency I cant remember which and now the owner of the company has to pay her $4000 and her over time and PTO time. I want to do the same thing only because I need the money desperately for school if I wasn't going to school out of my own pocket I would just let it go but I need the money. so I want to go over and get copies of everything in my file and then go to the better business board or where ever I need to go to get what they owe me. so do they have to give me a copy of my file upon request? I know I would have to present a proof of address and Identity and possibly proof of working there like a W2 or a pay stub. business I am going to do my research but I want to opinions, advice and upfront facts on this issue please and thank you! :)

has anyone else been in this situation (bashing please)
I haven't written in a while I have been self improving onmy own but tonight I am stirred up and kind of worried. And it's a long storywith a lot of other factors. So here's how it goes there is a QMA/CNA that Iwork with who is ONLY a CNA the facility I work at does not use Qs then thereis this cook I went to high school with and we are friends I don't like girlsin that way(and all my co workers know and don't care) and then there is theresidents one is the administrators mom who has dementia and is pleasantly confusedbut sometimes with it but not really. Then there is another resident whose oneof the nurse's brothers. Then there is this PRN nurse we have been workingunder for a few days while the nurse who has the brother is on leave due to herhusband passing away. This facility can hold36 people and right now has 19. Here is some back ground Everyone residents and staff and management is all like afamily all the staff get along we don't gossip accept the Q and about the Q . Ilove this job it feels like home! All the residents do for them self acceptlike 6 or 7. There is this one resident that hallucinates and thinks that everyonethe Q walks in to the room with the Q is married to so the Q is married to meand the Q has this thing going with her that we have 6 kids and yada yada yadakind of gets on my nerve that the Q does this I would like to tell her to knockit off but you have to pretty much be mean to get her to one of the nurses gotwrote up for laying in to her one night for talking nonstop about the samething but she stopped talking, you have to be downright nasty with her. So that'sall the Q jokes to me about and it gets on my nerves plus she is lazy and triesto get out of the simplest of things and all she does is talks talks talks hasno off switch. She thinks everyone likes her and they don't there is another ladywith dementia that just hates her and we can never get the resident to bed ifthe Q is in sight one night this resident grabbed her the Q by the hair and tried bashing the Qsface in to the wall. Now this old lady loves me but then again she likes allmen so I have no behaviors as long as I'm patient and explain what I'm doing. Anyway so tonight. The smokers where all waiting for the Q to take them out forlast smoke break at 8p I was looking at the news paper waiting so I could goput the resident that hates the Q to bed while she was out so she didn't comein and muddy things all up like she the Q does she also thinks that I needsomeone to hold my hand and baby sit me and I don't. Any way so the cook wastaking out the trash from the kitchen and I asked her in front of the smokersif she wanted to go play bingo in a couple of weeks at the legion. She saidsure why not. I should have kicked myself for doing that. Any way so I'mwrapping up with putting the Q hater to bed and they both come in the room cookwas smiling and the Q laughing the Q says "they all think you and the cook aredating! You and I aren't married any more" I'm just like what? Then she's like "that'swhat resident smokes a lot says and they all think you guys are a good couple!"so any way we all go up to the med cart I needed to tell the nurse something aboutearlier in the night or to see if I needed to apply some powder to the Q hatersscoriations. Didn't get to do that the Q interrupts and starts telling thenurse about the dating thing. The other nurse's brother is still sitting thereand I'm thinking oh god kill me now! Any way I just say so that it don't getout of hand and so it can work its way through the grape vine "the cook and Iare cousin not kissing cousins!" (although we are not cousins just to get thewhole thing to stop) and the Q makes this sexual remark right as the admin'smom comes out of her room the Q as adopted her and the admins mom gets thatlook on her face like leave me the heck alone when the Q over steps her boundaries. So the Q invites her in and I'm thinking oh great that's all me need. And the Qkeeps it going. So it's going on in front of the nurse trying to pass meds, thecook, the other nurses brother, and now the admin's mom. And the Q keepstalking dirty about kissing cousins and the admin's mom goes "well just becareful accidents can happen with kissing cousins" and I'm just keeping a smiletrying not to strangle this Q in front of the 2 residents that were in the hallat the time. Because the other nurse's brother can be a gossip and Im afraid hewill tell. Although him and I get along. I'm more worried about the admins momeven though she has dementia. I am just worried that I will get in trouble eventhough I didn't say anything in the wrong and I didn't keep it going I juststuck around because it was all right there at the nurses station pretty muchand I had charting to do. I am justafraid I will get in trouble for something I didn't really do and for somethingI did not feel comfortable with and trying to put it to an end without beingmean and really expressing myself to this Q. the PRN nurse has talked to theDON about the Q how she talks sexually all the time no matter what and how Iwas afraid to come talk to the DON because I was afraid of looking bad forsaying I don't want to work with her no more but still keep my hours becausethis Q drains the life out of me and I feel like work don't get done with her. I am just at my wits end and I love this joband I don't want to lose this job either for something someone else is doing. Orfor roomers. I really don't want to go to the DON and have it get really blownout of proportion I want to wait and see if anything is said. I have even toldthis Q that we need to watch what we say in front of the residents and we needto get our work done. And it kind of sucks that I've been an aide for a yearand a half and this Q has been doing it for 15 years and I'm the mature one. I just don't want to getin trouble for things I have not control in! Help no bashing!

Applying in the Spring! What about you?
I start in janurary on my prereqs well my remidials then my prereqs. at IVTCC in fortwayne IN all out of pocket no loans maybe for the program Ill take out a loan but not the pre program courses. I have decided to do my LPN first because I dont want to over do it. If that makes sense. LPN school is less competitive than RN schooling plus Im a firm believer that every good RN was once and aide and/or LPN. I can get my LPN gain experience while going to a 4 year university for my RN. I wish you guys all the best of luck on your journeys :)

I just have to share! :)
I have gotten a job with a Home Health Agengy. Well its not really home health its more companion and assisting if anything. The company pretty much deals in people with mental and physical disabilities. I love this job because I am getting paid to sit and visit with the clients help them with there chores and take them out in to the community. I dont feel tied down or like Im hooked to a ball and chain. I actually enjoy getting to go to work. unlike my past 2 jobs! but I do miss the long term care setting though of having a set schedual. and knowing that there are other employees around. has anyone else found that they miss there old sector of work but still love there new sector? I have really decided that I want to stay in to home health for a while maybe even start my own little company after I get my 4 year RN. I wouldnt mind to even go in and start my own little 30 bed LTC facility. where Its all about the consumer. and where its non for profit and my staff gets paid good and treated good because I am a firm believer that how staff get treated in a nursing home is how the residents get cared for. and how the staff works as a team reflects on how the residents get cared for also. but hey its all dreams and lolly pops and nursing isnt a bunch of rainbows and unicorns. I just want to have that dream facility that everyone is lining up to be employed at and everyone will feel comfortable leaving a loved one at and where and elderly person can call home... I dont care about money as long as I can pay my bills and retire someday... but thats just how big I dream I guess lol

Allowing Corpsman to Become Nurses
I think that even if they can not take the NCLEX to become a nurse after being a corpsman then they should think of it as that was an experience and they can if they want to become a nurse by going to school but I do feel that the governemtn or what ever should atleast pay for half of it if not all. because a CNA or PCT or QMA can not go and just sit for the NCLEX and become an LPN after a few years of doing it. but then again they have less training that a corpsman does. I think if a corpsman wants to do it bad enough then they will go to school to do it and if the only thing that is stopping them from doing it is the education then I guess they dont want it bad enough.

Home Health interview.
wednesday I have an interview with this guy at a home health agency that deals mostly in people with developmental problems. They handdle children and people with autisim and behavioral problems. also people with physical disabilities. I AM VERY NURVOUS!!! not for the interview but the type of people I will be working with, no I have no problem with disabled people, I have just never delt with people in this group before especially people with behavioral problems. I have never even done home health before either. I know that it will be very different than working in a facility and I will have to rely on myself a lot more. I also dont feel right going in to someones home unless I know them. I know I wouldnt mind trying hme health because like I have stated before I want to keep my horizons open and not just think about one area of nursing and care giving. I wouldnt mind trying psych nursing so I would thing that being a home health aide for people with mental disabilities and behavior problems would look good on a resume. just a little nurvouse thats all :) Does anyone have any good advice? or stories to share? any thing helps

I dont know where else to turn.
most people dont know Im gay unless they ask or I tell them most the time I dont tell them unless I start to feel uncomfortable about them getting to close or somthing like that, if that makes sense. for that LPN that got a job 3 days after losing her first job well good for her I wish I had her luck :) a for that aide that you think they keep around because hes good well think again... a lot of aides hate working with him because they csn never find him snd when they do he is out in his car smoking or he is hiding some where not doing a single thing. I hated comming in after him rounds were never done bed pans in the hopper room never done, ok I can understand the bed pans when you put the residents first its whatever Ill do it when I got the time. but its like jees you cant do bed checks and take care of the residents? I myself would only keep people around that wanted to work and who put the residents first and werent tardy or absent all the time. but thats just how I was brought up any way.

I dont know where else to turn.
******Okay, so you have actually had someone say, to your face, "I am going to do everything possible to get you fired"? Is that what you're telling me? If so, I understand where your hostility is coming from. But I have never heard someone actually SAY that to another person. I have seen it happen, ONE time, but the person doing the complaining never actually told the person they were complaining on. Oh, and btw, it backfired and got the complainer fired. As far as employers not talking to you about your problems before firing you, again, I find this kind of hard to believe. I mean, I know there are "90 day probationary periods" in which the employers try to see if you are the right fit for the position, and I have known many people that have been terminated during such a period, but I have never known an employer to fire someone with no warning. That seems uncouth to me. You say you "need somone to show [you] how to fix it so it [doesn't] happen again." This is not their job. Yes, you can ask where you went wrong, what you did that lead them to terminating you, but about 98% of the time you're not going to receive an answer. I have been in a managerial position before, and I know first hand that explaining, in depth, a termination can lead to such things as lawsuits, therefore most employers will leave you with a "no comment" answer rather than trying to explain their reasoning************ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YES I have had it said to my face, and in fact it was by an aide that thought he was all high and mighty only because he was fired then rehired but he was always late to work and never ever did his job to I am being completly honest with you. In fact after my first three months in to my job I rarely gossipped and I honestly never said to things about this person except I was mad that so and so got fired for doing there job yet he was still around and a lot of the other nurses and aides agreed with me and I wasnt the only one who said it either, so I see where that could have landed me in hot water. That person was mad because I had called off becuase I sick and had to go to the hospital. and they made him stay over an extra four hours. Plus my aide job was my first job what so ever and your right I probably should have just let it go but I went and told the DON and ADON. they told me I had nothing to worry about then the DON got fired and we got a new DON witch I had worked with on the floor she was the nurse I always worked under, but it wasnt her that wanted me out it was the owner. She always told me to never quit because I was good at what I did and she like how I worked, even the ADON said the same thing. I understood that the DON had her job to do and friendship or what ever was last I will admit I was mad at her at first but I later got over it when I relized this and I told her this and she told me she wasnt mad at me and that she hoped the best for me and what not. and another thing I have had people that I thought were friends in my childhood/high school years that ended up screwing me over and it just ended out friendship and it was over stupid things but its whatever that was then this is now. as for the warning thing at my last job I never got it it was just oh well sorry I have to let you go because I got one or two complaints from the same two staff members and well I hear all these rumors about you good bye. When they should have said this is your only warning but you need to change this this and this before you come back or atleast work on it. at my aide job there was one time like 4 or 5 months in to it I was told this as a rumor I went and asked about it only becuase I wanted to know why when I thought i did my job and I was just a little worried. They said yeah it was true but we are giving you another chance. It was all because the nurse I was working under (a different one from the one I sated that became DON) didnt like that I was down the other hall answering call lights after I was caught up there were no call lights on on my hall my residents were in bed and had there needs met. she was just mad because there was a few times a call light would come on, it was for a resident who needed a bed pan every hour that was it, and she couldnt find me to answer it she knew where I was and in fact why couldnt she get up from chatting with the other nurses and go do it? there was only 2 aides that night and it was somthing simple. plus she was one of those nurses that felt it was above her to help her aides or do aide work her self. I explained that to the ADON she understood and I told her they know what Im doing they know they can find me they know that they can make a list and I will get to it. but if someone needs a bed pan I mean its not like you are in the middle of doing a med pass or saving a life no your sitting there chatting with the other nurses about how your husbands a cheating alcaholic. I belive in team work so if I have nothing else to do and I see one of my other coworkers struggling I try my best to help them. because it all comes down to the residents/patients. then like a few days before my 8months with my aide job they terminated me, I dont want to go in to details. as for my aide job Im just going to say I left because I felt it wasnt a right fit. as for them showing me how to fix it your right but I atleast want to be told and atleast givin some kind insight so I can do it. not for them to nesicarily show me how to fix it. Ill just come here and ask you you are giving me what I need and I like that! at times I like it when some people are actually mean and firm with me (no offense). with my cashier job I did ask well what and why it was said I didnt ask for name of who said it I had the idea alot of people told me who to stay away from and who to be careful of and that was one of my good friends that I consider to be like a sister, I only have two good friends that I spend my time with. I mean they could of fired me because they didnt like me and thats the reason they gave when I actually did my job. And dont say Im playing the victim thats just my way of thinking positive and to be able to "cope" if you will. Honestly being a cahier was so easy it was boring and hard for me to take an interest in to. and Ill tell you this to Im 19 and gay so I kind of get a thrill listening to the gossip, dont mean I like to spread it though. cause I always have a miserable feeling when I do and a oh my what have I done. because I dont like it done to me so there I need to fix that too. there is a very select few men I am trusting of, so I tend to trust women more and befriends and what not with them first even at work. but women are drama filled I think we all are. just like I feel that when we all get screwed we all tend to play victim whether we are right or wrong because we want someone to be on our side or to just listen. I come here to vent because my mom dont understand and she tends to take the other persons side I dont get that but I dont care I can take care of my self my mom doesnt work with me or closly to me anyway. she goes off by what Im like at home and thats two totally differen things...

I dont know where else to turn.
- I dont know where else to turn.
I have asked some of my former coworkers and told them to be honest I have asked if I was a negative force and they said no. I have asked if Im a good worker they say yes that they love working with me. I know at my last job people did the same things I did and never got in trouble and they are still working there. I myself think that one or two were just jelouse because I hadnt been there long enough and they were training me to do head cashier stuff so they thought ok Im going to complain about every little thing untill he gets fired because I feel threatend by him. and I didnt like the job as cashier as much because there were times it was borring and it was never consistant. I have been told my alot of my residents that I was polite and kind. but at my aide job they also fire the good ones just to set an example and it never really worked to change things. and to be honest I just dont think my managers liked me at my cashier job. I never said no to doing what they asked me to do. they never talked to me about it at the cashier possition too it was just I have to let you go no warning no nothing so that there just dont seem right to me. my aide job talked to me about somthing I might have done wrong but they made it a point to say this dosent mean you are in trouble we just want you to do your best sort of thing and I didnt get those often and I was never written up at my aide job. I myself feel that I need to get another aide job and just not make friends as fast and just do my job. and like Ive seen watch my back. Im just going to have to not gossip or cuss. and just do my job and be done do it with a smile and move on. most importantly learn to keep things to myself. and if that fails then I guess I will need to look into a different job or go see a doctor or somthing. I was also think ing that if I was to go on to get my LPN that after I worked for a while I was going to move out of state if this keeps up like move to a non right to work state or even out of the country to say canada. so with that being said I do my best and work hard and try to do a little better than those around me and I still get screwed so I think that there is just somthing people dont like about me and Im going to have to change it or move to a different area where it is ok.- I finally fell prey to the LTC politicos after a year and a half.....
show the aide and the next shift nurse and posibly another nurse that is on your shift that you worte the reports have them walk with you to turn them in so then you can have people to back you up if you cant make a copy... or hand them in personally... or even write your self a note saying you turned it in and have your manager sign it if you can so then they cant say they dont remember.- I have the most amazing secretary
Well if you ever get promoted to anything bigger and better make sure you say somthing along the lines of "and I could not have done this with out the help of all the people I work with especially my secretary thank you"- If I hate being a Cna, should I stop pursuing Nursing?
Through my experience I hated clinicals in my CNA class but I hated my first three days of my first aide job too only because I didnt know the people and what there preferences where but after a while it wasnt so bad and I grew to love it. and dont think about it as oh Im just whipping butts for 8-12 hours no its more than that you get to do other things for them like help pick out there clothes help them find somthing to do or watch on tv or be a shoulder for them to cry on, especially the new admits that have never been in a LTC facility or they came form a another facility. and having you to do those things with them keeps them happy healthy and feeling indipendant and when it comes to pericare or butt whippin' just think would you like to be left in your own waste? would you want your mom or dad or other relatives sitting like this? would I want to develope painful wounds on my bottom from sitting in my waste and the acid just eating away at my skin? Im sure youd say no to all those and if your that only persons care, you are preventing an illness by cleaning them and bathing them and what not. I myself know that I couldnt be an aide my whole life but go on to nursing school I kow alot of nurses that were aides for a week and ddnt like it or didnt even bother with becoming a CNA and they are good nurses now. at least start out PRN somewhere and after a while if you like then pick up more hours. - I dont know where else to turn.
