Stupid dream

Nursing Students CNA/MA

And I know, that this was just a dream but it still bothers me. :o.

I was done with my CNA school and started working for a LTC facility. I found it very hard to take care of the residents there and I was grossed out by doing the job....and I hated it and I regreted my decision being a CNA.

I know it's stupid that I'm opening a thread aboout it, but I had to. I really want to do the job and to help people. I'm wondering a lot how it will be, and if I will like it. I'm little scared/worried.

So what if you find out that you hate it. Some do. Many don't. It is entirely your decision to make. And you don't have to do nursing to help people. Social workers, policemen, etc help people everyday.

There will always be something that grosses you out. For me, I can't handle sputum. I've seen vomit that was bm and I've seen some really nasty nasty open wounds with infections and bugs crawling out of them. That doesn't gross me out as much as sputum. Any nurse will tell you there is that one thing that bugs them. As long as you can work through it you'll be ok.

And if it's any consolation, when I had to do my first pericare on a resident as a student, I said to myself that I can't do this and almost walked out. But I didn't and it got easier with time.

Give it a go and if you absolutely hate it, regroup and decide what you do want to do.

Good luck!

Don't worry too much about it. As the above person said, you may not like it.

I finished my classes last week. I had clinicals on Wednesday and Thursday. The first day went really well but I had a dream that night that my 2nd day went horribly. I woke up on Thursday morning, went to clinicals, and had a great day.

You will do fine! No worries!

You are both right. I'm probably looking too much into it. I'm probably just nervous. The only way to find out if I will like the job, is to do it.

Echoing everyone else, but you'll find out in time what works for you. Are you in your CNA class yet? If so, do you enjoy clinicals? And if not, shadow a CNA.

Yes Amanda, I started class last week and I love it. The more I read here and the more I talk to my classmates, the more I realize that my "fears" are normal.
