RANT!! Pleaseeee dont answer the call light if you have no time to help!!

Arghhhhh! I hate this. Someone (yes, usually a super busy nurse) will see a light on, go in, find out its for the bathroom and then come find me. In the 3 minutes it took you to hunt me down the patient could be half way on the pot by now!! Ok that's all, rant over. :)) I really do love my job.

I try to answer call lights to ensure that the patient has not fallen to the ground trying to go to bathroom/or get out of bathroom. If its a one assist, I dont have a problem but if it requires extensive assistance...yes I am coming to find you

There is no way of knowing before you go in how long it will take. Sometimes I answer if I am busy but if it is something that will take time I may ask someone to help/do it.

Yeah, there are always instances where you simply can't do it I get that but I feel like patient care suffers when people hunt me down to do something that could be done by the time I'm found. And I'm not hiding I'm helping another patient. It just bugs me, that's all. If the pt was hurt we would know because the secretary ha already answered the bell I have some nurses that pop in anyways when they see it on even though I've already been called and am tied up and they still come get me. Like helloooo if I could be there I would be...... Lalalalalal. I forget some places have the lights that you have to manually answer. I'm not on LTC.

Oh yes.

I remember feeling the same way you do.

It was drop dead frustrating to me and I never forgot it.

I try not to do that myself if I can help it (and I think most nurses are really the same way).

That was one thing I do not miss about being an aide. ;)

As a nurse, that drives me nuts. It just wastes time to go track down a CNA to get them to do something I can do myself. If I'm in the middle of something, or needing to get to another room, I'll get the patient to the bathroom and then let the CNA I'm working with know, so they aren't surprised when the bathroom call light goes off. I also tell them that I'll try to respond to that light if possible. Some of my coworkers don't do this, which is just bizarre.

I know what you mean. I do have a couple of coworkers that will spend more time hunting down an aide to do something than the actual thing would take to do.

Ugh! I hate it!! It's not just the nurses either its everyone. I understand that perhaps you don't have time to do a major task but why bother if you know you're on your way to another pt or you don't even have time to find a bi of tissues. LOL. I'm good at what I do and mostly everyone is helpful but arhhhhh I had to vent yesterday. This week is sooo long. One off one on one off one on. Boo!!

As a student nurse, I saw a nurse step over the patient who had fallen on the ground and was blocking the doorway. She then went to find the Care tech to come get the patient off the floor! Not to ask for help so she could do it with assistance, but to delegate out that task! I was flabbergasted!
