Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

So I am in my first semester of the nursing program. I am feeling like this is not what I want to do anymore, and I have been thinking medical assisting maybe better for me. Does anyone have any advice? Would it be a bad idea to go from nursing to medical assistant? What if I don't end up liking it and decide to go back to nursing? Idk what I should do

The first semester was the most difficult for me personally due to an adjustment period... What has happened that is making you feel this way? I would recommend exploring the reason why before leaving what you worked so hard for.

I completed a medical assistant program back in 2000 and was never able to find a job with my training that paid more than $8.00/hr.

On the other hand, I've always been able to secure decently-paying employment with my LVN and RN licensure.

I'm not sure what is making me feel this way. Iv been struggling with depression/anxiety, I also have a 1 year old. So I think it's just the timing. I don't feel nursing is right for me at this time in my life.

Maybe look into something other than medical assisting. Like TheCommuter said I also did medical assisting before nursing school and never found a job other than being a receptionist at dr office. Was a waste of money really.

It seems you have already made up your mind and are looking for respondents to validate the decision you are about to make. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Medical Assistants often times find it hard to find jobs. Anytime I hear someone wanting to go that route, I immediately think, "No! Don't do it!" If you are going to spend that much time and money on a program, it should be for an RN.

If RN isn't for you, maybe Respiratory Therapist is a better option, or not the medical field at all. Best of luck.
