Nursing Students CNA/MA

So i work at a hospital and im low on the totem pole. If they tell me i have to go somewhere, i have to go. Unfournately they keep sticking me in icu and its freaks me out to be here. None of nurses are helpful and i dont understand the machines and people keep coding all around me. My anxiety flares up every time i have to go down there and i almost have panic attacks. Im afraid to tell anyone because i think they might fire me, should i get a doctor note that excuses me from having to work the floor, or should i just suck it up? I know that death is part of working in the medical field but not one every single day.

A lot of places will just take you off the schedule, entirely, if you have any restrictions and aren't able to do the job you were hired for. Are there CNAs who like floating to ICU that you might be able to trade with? If not, you're probably stuck.

The funny thing is people pull rank and come find me so they dont have to go there, i was actually hired to work peds. Im only on my real floor when the other cnas have the day off so once or twice a month. Even though were union based, im afraid of what they will do or how it will look when i become a nurse.

Unfortunately, sounds like you're stuck. But take it as a learning experience, get what you can out of it. Ask questions. If nothing else , maybe you'll annoy them so much, they'll ask that you not be sent back 😅 (that's sarcasm for those who don't get it).
