If I want to become a dialysis technician do I need to get my CNA certification first? I know they do on the job training, but would it be better if i got my certification? Before I apply is there any certifications that I need like for phlebotomy, EKG, etc.?

One has nothing to do with the other as far as requirements. You can take a dialysis tech course without a prior CNA certification.

I have applied to dialysis tech jobs with a CNA cert and they never call me for an interview. They want someone who has completed a hemodialysis tech certification or at the very least phlebotomy... The two are very different jobs.

That's exactly what I am saying: one has nothing to do with the other. If you want to do dialysis, you need to take that class.

No, I don't think you do. Not sure what area you're from but Platt College in Los Angeles is currently enrolling in a weekend Hemodialysis Certification Program. It's about 5-6 months and it was the cheapest one I found in the area. give them a call 626-300-5444.
