How do you think I will fare as a CNA?

I want to be a CNA because I'm interested in nursing and I think it will give me some insight into the field and some good experience.

I am quite shy and under confident but that can go and I think maybe being a CNA will help in overcoming that. What do you think?

I am also a young male (20 years old) of south asian origin with a (black) beard, it's not a long beard but it is a full beard.

I'm worried that I will receive a lot of discrimination especially from patients because of this considering most CNA's are probably pretty females.

I live in NYC by the way, recently moved here from the UK so have a british accent.

Nah. You will be fine lol

It is difficult for us to answer this as we haven't seen your skills on the floor with patients. As long as you are kind, efficient, and are a team player, you will do fine. Some patients will refuse to have you care for them; don't take it personally and keep moving forward.

trust me....we LOVE male aides. you fill a very vital role. seriously. i am always thankful for our male aides! there are women who only want a female aide, but that is understandable.

This is an inaccurate stereotype.

It is all in YOUR attitude and not it the attitude of others that will determine if you succeed as a CNA!

You will come all sorts of people, both patients and co-workers. There will be some who don't like you for one reason or another. Some patients will not want you take care care of them for any sort of reason. It's not YOU, it's them, so don't take it personally. I see people who don't want male, female, black, white, young or older care givers. I had a 88 yr old resident who didn't want me to care for her because she insisted I was messing around with her husband :cyclops:!

So, you can't and shouldn't take it personally.

There are two sides to every situation. A good side and a bad side. You have to decide to look at the good side if you want to succeed.
