For the CNA that does not want LTC...

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Sometimes I see threads on here that ask where a CNA can work other than a LTC.

I work with my local school district, and just recently found out that one of the public schools in my area is geared towards students that have special health needs (most students there are healthy--it is a school for both). Some have various stages of autism, wheelchair bound, legally blind, serious speech problems, etc. Some of these students have a CNA that assists this student all day with all sorts of things, including toileting for those who need that kind of help. The CNA also accompanies the student to lunch.

I talked to the two CNAs that were in the class I was subbing, and they said they are employed by an agency. The school district has a contract with this agency.

I don't know, some of you might want to consider that. At least your patient load would only be one person, as opposed to however many you usually get in an LTC.

Thanks for the information. Knowing about job options is helpful.

I am regularly placed by my home care agency. I actually want to work long term care, but its hard to give up regular employment to job hunt.

My agency likes my work and the way i represent them when i am in the community. We CNA's and caregivers are the face of a company whether it's LTC or home care.

Thanks again for sharing.
