first CNA job

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I'm pleased to say that I just got offered the CNA job I wanted most of all. It's my first CNA position, and it's at an excellent hospital, on the medical unit, with limited hours so I can learn at a reasonable pace whether or not this is the work and the place I really want. (And it's within walking distance, just to put the icing on my middle-aged cake!) I've applied for positions there for months, and finally got an interview *and* offer.

I'm exploring the possibility of going to nursing school, but I didn't want to do it without this experience first. I start in less than two weeks and I couldn't be happier.

That is absolutely wonderful. I am a new CNA and I so desperately want to get into my dream hospital.. however, everyone turns me down due to the lack of experience. I am a new graduate as of Aug 09. I am doing a private duty case once a week. However, I wonder what type of experience can a new graduate have, really. I just want a hospital to give me a chance. I am an outstanding caregiver, I am also doing my prereqs for the ADN RN program. So how did you get in a hospital with limited exp? Please help.. I have EVERYTHING IT TAKES to do well. I just need to know HOW TO GET IN...I also did my clinicals at a hospital on the telemetry floor, which was the best exp. ever!!!! I just loved it!!!

Jess, I really don't know. I feel lucky more than deserving of this opportunity. I can tell you that the interviewer let me know that she liked this about my application:

* I had my BLS for Health Care providers certificate already earned.

* I had taken course work in A & P, as well as in Medical Terminology.

* I had a professional job before CNA school with plenty of customer service and management-level judgment involved.

I hope you get the chance you're looking for. Good luck!

I am a student in an ASN RN program and have my first job as a NA now at a senior healthcare facility, (which is not my favorite by far) and I would love to get into the hospital setting. Even in clinical, the hospital was my favorite, and I have been applying to a local hospital for a few months now but still no offer. I'm per-diem which is nice because of classes and I can basically make my own schedule, and have a choice of working when I want. I would much rather work in a hospital though!

I have just passed my exam yesterday! :yeah: My question is: What is BLS for Health Care Providers?

Specializes in Med-Surg/urology.

BLS Healthcare Provider Course

Course Description

The BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.

here url: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3011975 this is usually offered for free by most employers, cause most state require this for practice.

Its a very imformative class, you will enjoy it. Inquire with your employer first before getting by your own.

Good luck

Thanks so much! I have a certification in CPR/AED. Is this the same thing? I received it when I took the class with the American Red Cross.

What does your cert says? It sometimes offered individually, you have to verify that with whom ever you took the class with. Sometimes BLS includes emergency administration of ephi-pen and proper abdominal thrust or heimleich maneuver, and some couple of extra stuff, like signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest. Not sure, so you must verfy it or ask your RN supervisor or Director of Nursing.

Good luck.
