CNA/Tech Pay Hospital vrs Nursing Homes

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Which in General pays better? I know there is difference in Pay based on location vrs experience. Right now I work for a Hospital as a Tech. It pays $9.20/hr +$1.00/hr night shift premium. That is with no prior experience. This is working in a Ortho/Med unit. I`ve been told that the Ortho/Med is one of the hardest if not hardest unit. I spent one night working in ICU & it was cake walk compared to Ortho/Med.

Do you feel that hospitals pay better than nursing homes? or would I be better off to get 6 months of hospital experience under my belt as a Tech. & then get CNA certifactions & go to nursing homes for more money. Or stay at the hospital, & stick it out. The rumor was the annual raise was only going to be 1% of current pay. Reality probable 3%= .25 cents. Of course one has to consider benefits to:

Anthem Basic Insurance(all I can afford)

PTO vrs Vacation & Sick Pay

Free Gym Membership for myself at hospital(don`t use it)

Free Short Term Disabilty

24% off my cell bill saves me $10.00

There really is no 'in general.' Every area I have lived in it has been different.

Check around for pay rates near you.

Hospitals generally want trained techs. Nursing homes generally don't accept 'tech duties' as experience unless you are certified already.

Plus hospital tech experience doesn't always equate to nursing home skills and vice versa.
