CNA pay in CA - specifically the San Francisco Bay Area

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Does anyone know how much a brand new CNA in CA will make per hour?

I am currently finishing pre-reqs for a second degree Bachelors in Nursing. I will be applying this fall to start fall 2010.

At my current job, which is not in the medical field, hours have been cut left and right. Less hours and the fact it is sales related in this economy do not equal good news. I made good money last year but this year my salary is a third of last year. I am making 60% less this year and it is not going to get better.

I figured I could do a one-month CNA program and get some hospital experience before I start the ABSN fall 2010.

I can't get a definitive answer on hourly pay for CNAs. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Anyone know starting pay with no experience? I have heard 18 USD an hour but that seems high.

Thank you in advance.

LVNs are lucky to make $18/hr with most employers. Starting pay for CNAs runs around $9-$11/hr in nursing homes and can be $12/hr in home health. Private duty home care can be as high as $15-$16, or even $18/hr, but those jobs are few and far between. In the hospital, you could expect $12-$14/hr to start, provided you could find a job. There is a lot of competition, just as with licensed nurse jobs.
