CNA clinical advice encouragment

I am in clinical right now I feel I am doing okay but I thought I would do better. Like putting on adult briefs is hard the cna I shadowed had the guy stand up I thought they lay down so you can put them on. Also today I was trying to help make beds and the cna was particular about the way she wanted it made every time I made a bed she would re do it even though the way it was made was fine. Also I don't want to force feed but if I politely feed the patient the cna look at me like I am doing it wrong. Any advice or encouragement would be great.

Everybody has their own way of doing things. I personally don't like having the pt's stand up when putting the brief on, but a lot of CNA's do. I wouldn't worry too much. Keep practicing & you'll get the hang of things :)

Yea and the guy could not stand very long. I learned that you put the brief on when there laying down and you roll the person to get it on and it just seems easier. But I guess every cna has there own way o doing it and you have to be confident in the way you do it. I guess I am doing okay the cna I shadowed told my teacher I am doing well.

You will find everybody has their way to do things and of course that is the only right way!!

Don't worry. Get through clinicals and you'll be fine.

I just finished my clinical two weekends ago. With feeding, some of the residents need to be told to open their mouth with every bite, it's just how they are. I had four days of clinical, so I got to know my residents well.

Bed making... well I shadowed four different CNAs and made a lot of beds, but everyone made theirs different!

Endure! The clinicals and shadowing will be over soon. What works for you may not work with others. As long as you know the basics, you should be fine. It sounds like they were being picky anyway. Some of them get off on toying with student aides.

You are not there to critique the work of the CNAs. You are there to apply the knowledge that you learned while in your NA course. Remember that, this is all a learning experience!!! :) Have fun. You will always see things that are not being done the 'right' way... ways that are different than what you were taught. It doesn't necessarily make it wrong. CNAs have found ways to, including shortcuts, to provide quality care. They do what works for them - so be understanding to that. Enjoy your clinical experience and be as active as you can! Volunteer and do all the work you can so you can have experience. Don't just watch the CNA perform his/her duties as many students do.
