Any second degree students considering CNA training?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi all,

I am currently taking prerequisites so that I can eventually qualify for entry into an accelerated BSN program. That being said, I have also though about CNA training prior to entering nursing school so that I could possible work p/t or per diem while in school in the hopes of gaining healthcare experience (I am in a non-healthcare career currently). Are their other second degree students/career changers considering CNA (or PCT) training as well? My issue is that my current job pays nearly double than an entry level CNA (I live in NYC) so quitting my job would not be ideal unless I am accepted into an ABSN program (which would be at least two years from now). I am also having trouble figuring out when the best time is to take the course since I work full-time and have a family, although from what I have seen they are not very long. I also considered phlebotomy but that is more money I have to shell out and I wonder if its necessary since I plan to be an RN anyway. Thanks!

Most hospitals have a position for nursing students that complete their first clinical course (PCI- patient care interns or SNA- student nurse associate), so if you are looking for a part-time hospital job then you don't need your CNA.

Yeah, I would check with your local hospitals. Around here they are called nurse fellow or nurse extern. Don't waste your time or money if it's not necessary. Plus, these positions start at higher wages than a CNA.
