Interview questions for CNS position

Specialties CNS

Hi everyone,

I'm just starting the process for applying for a position as a new CNS.

Can anyone offer any potential interview questions that might be asked on an interview for a CNS position?

I figured this might be good practice and offer some ideas of what they may ask. :)

Thank you!!

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Since CNS's act in so many roles, it would depend on the job description. A couple I was asked:

1. Since you are a new grad CNS, how does is your nursing experience relevant to this position?

2. What skills would you bring to this job?

3. How have you convinced an individual to go along with the team?

Specializes in ED, psych, burn ICU, hospice.

Also, if I am not mistaken, you can probably google to find out common interview questions. For a long time, I kept a list that was sent to me (can't remember where it came from). They were pretty much generic questions that could have been used for engineers, teachers, whomever.... They appeared as "medical" questions, in that they used medical terms, but basically the idea was to get an answer from the interviewee in order to get an idea of character, ability to prioritize, interpersonal relations, etc.

For example, "you partner is ignoring pages to return to the work site to consult with the general contractor (engineer question), how do you confront him in regards to doing his job?" When I was interviewing for a flight nurse position, there was a similar question, something like, "your partner on the helicopter has not been doing any cleaning or maintenance, how do you address this issue with him?"

Just a suggestion...
