Calling all current cns students - Page 3
Register Today!- Jul 3, '12 by nicoleinSo I have to set things right. I mentioned before that I ordered a set of 6 CDs from amazon called Clinical Nurse Specialist 6 hr review course. When the 1st set of CDs arrived only the first one played in my computer. All others said blank and so I emailed customer service who quickly replied that I would receive another set. That set came today and again all said blank in my pc. Another fiery email was sent to customer service who replied within minutes telling me to try another player bc she checked them before sending them. Low and behold they work in my tele's DVD player!!!!' I'm sitting there with egg on my face and sending an apology to this company. Why didn't I think of trying them in another cd player??? Lol lol. Well I'm just glad I wasnt out 140 bucks for nothing. Haven't listened to them as yet tho so fingers crossed that it was worth it.karnicurnc likes this.
- Jul 5, '12 by traumaRUsYou will all probably find that as you get out of school and look for jobs, you will need to educate potential employers that (in many states) CNS is an APN with virtually the same practice act as an NP. I live in an area where there is a large concentration of CNS's but still when I went to apply for a job, I had to tell them that I could bill for my services, provide the same care, write scripts, etc. Good luck everyone.tyloo likes this.
- Jul 6, '12 by MelinaI'm currently enrolled in University of Cincinnati's online CNS program, but I am transferring to CU Denver this Fall. Nice to connect with you all.
- Jul 12, '12 by kubivernI just started working on my CNS Post-MS Certificate at Idaho State University. My MS was in Nursing Education - if you think the NP students growl at CNS students you should see the NP students growl at students in an education option. We were lower than the dirt under pond-scum!
In Idaho both the CNS and the NP are APN's with very, very little scope of practice differences. Really the only difference is that CNS's do not treat adolescents or pediatrics and that is simply because Idaho State only provides CNS education for adult care.
Nice to meet everyone!Last edit by kubivern on Jul 13, '12 - Jul 13, '12 by marycarneyTimely post - I recently completed an MSN - Education Specialist through Western Governors University, and really fell in love with research. (I know - strange)
I work in a PICU, and would really like to explore a CNS in either peds or critical care.
Thoughts? Programs you could recommend? I need a distance learning program - although 1-2 trips to campus/ year would be doable.
Thanks for your input. - Jul 13, '12 by kubivernSearching at Clinical Nurse Specialist Programs | Find Accredited CNS Degrees showed several Pediatric CNS programs, including Post-Masters Programs.
I know when I was searching for online programs it was critical to make sure that the Post-Masters programs you look at recognize the MS in Nursing Education - some programs allow only students with a APN MS to enroll in their Post-Masters programs. - Jul 13, '12 by hey_suzQuote from marycarneyMarycarney, what about getting a PhD? If you love research, that would be an option to consider. UW-Milwaukee offers an online MSN to PhD program. I don't know much about this option but overall I've been pleased with anything UWM-related.karnicurnc likes this. -
