North CO anesthesia??

I was wondering if anyone on this board knows anything about the working environment with Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft Collins. For example the variety/types of cases CRNA's perform, MDA/CRNA relations, pay range etc. Also if anyone has any information on any other hospitals in the Denver/Bouler and surounding areas I would like to hear what you know. Thanks

I would be shocked if PVH uses CRNAs, Such a desirable place to live is likely to be dominated by anesthesiologists.

Yuck, so that means if you do all that work to become a CRNA, you pretty much are stuck living in undesireable places or small towns away from large cities?

In five years in the OR there I only saw CRNAs used in one area, a separate GYN surgery at one hospital. Otherwise the only other place that I saw CRNAs was on night OB call. My understanding is that they are used more at some of the surgicenters and plastics places as well as VA/Kaiser/Denver Health. When I asked the president of one of the groups why they did not hire CRNAs he stated " why hire a CRNA when I can get an anesthesiologist for the same price". Given the current state of Anesthesiology - CRNA relations there I don't think that it will change soon.

If you go out on the plains then you will run into more CRNAs. Some of the western slope towns also use more CRNAs.

Thanks CoreO, that is more the info I was searching for. I actually spoke with someone at North Co Anesthesia, so I knew they hired CRNA's, but the lady I spoke with did not give any details as to what capacity they provide services, scope of practice, etc.
I have heard the same thing about Denver. As a new grad I think I will be looking elsewhere. Somewhere I can be mentored and given the opportunity to build skills in all types of cases and settings. I don't want to be the stepchild confined to working 3rd shift, out of sight, doing explaps in the bowels of the OR. Thanks and if anyone else has different info I would be glad to hear it.

I live in Colorado Springs and they are rarely used here. They are used at Ft. Carson Military Base (in Colo Spgs) and in Pueblo which is 35 miles from here. I am going to school this fall so do not know if I will be back. Maybe it is time for a group to try and get started here when I get back----who know.

The commute from Colo Spgs to Pueblo is 40 minutes of interstate so I may come back for that gig if possible. Go to Gaswork.com and Colorado has only a few opportunities.

You are mistaken Sir................

When I live in CO, I worked at St. Anthony's, St. Joseph's, Porter Adventist and Parker Hospital routinely.

Please post correct and fully researched information. Working as a CRNA is very profitable in the Denver area.

Regards,
CC
