Looking to shadow CRNA in Chicago area

Hi!

I am an ICU RN in the Chicago suburbs. I would love the opportunity to spend some time shadowing a CRNA before I make the decision to apply to CRNA school. If anyone is willing to allow me to shadow, please let me know.

Thank you in advance!!

Your best bet is to actually call the anesthesia department at the hospitals, especially your own, and request to shadow a CRNA. There is a lot of liability issues, so the hospital you work at would be the best choice. Just because a CRNA on here would allow you to shadow them doesn't mean that the hospital system they work for would necessarily let you come into surgery. Privacy reasons, liability (blood squirts in your eye during surgery), etc.

I would definitely choose my hospital if we had CRNAs. Unfortunately, we don't. I will give some downtown hospitals a call. I don't know which ones use CRNAs, but I guess I'll find out!

Call the assistant program director at Rush. If you call her, she can help you, and possible arrange a shadow experience at Rush. She is usually in the office on Monday/Fridays, and in the OR the rest of the week. If you leave her a message, she will get back to you.
