I am! I just stated my first nursing job and I am already planning on applying. Being a Midwife is my dream. I don't think they've released the dates and application deadlines for 2012 yet. I emailed them to see if I can find out.

They have not, they are still putting together the calender.

I am looking at about 3 CNM programs, but Frontier is my top pick so far.

From my understanding, they try to accept all qualified applicants, so it depends on which class you fall into.

It is very, very important to apply early, because if they get an overflow of qualified applications, they will close that particular class early. So you need to have everything already put together and ready to go as soon as they announce they will be accepting the class you wish to attend.

From my understanding, what happens is if you apply for class (and I am pulling these numbers out of the air)...100, they may wait list you for that class and offer you admission to class 101...however, if someone cancels, they may call you and tell you that they are going to offer you admission to class 100.

Now, I did find out something unique...they send their acceptances by email and their declines by letter and may or may not contact you at all if you are waitlisted...yes, odd, but that is how they do it.

Also, they do not notify those that have been accepted until 4 to 6 weeks before the START date of a particular class...which can be a hardship for travel, financial aid, changing your work schedule, etc.

That can't be right.

I have really heard nothing but wonderful things about the program, but I do worry about my ability to stay focused on my own and finding the support I would need as a student without being constantly surrounded by other midwifery students (I have lots of friends who are midwives, but it is still not the same thing!)

Anyone have any insight on this?

I am a Frontier student, and I found out I was accepted to the program a little less than 3 months before Frontier Bound (orientation), and a little less than 5 months when classes actually started.

There is a lot of support from the faculty and your classmates. Me and my classmates stay in touch quite frequently on Facebook, and Skype is also useful.

Wow! Last year, my class was notified about 6 weeks before Frontier Bound. A friend/coworker is starting classes next month, and her class was notified 4 weeks before Frontier Bound.

The classes themselves start anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months after you attend Frontier Bound.

ETA: Just looked at my acceptance email - it was dated 6/24, and Frontier Bound was 8/23. So it was 8 weeks, not 6, sorry! I do know my friend didn't get notice until 4 weeks prior, though.

I applied for the August 2011 one and they told me to expect to hear something 6-8 weeks ahead. So, yeah that part's right. I hate waiting!!

I also applied to the August 2011 program and the email said 6-8 weeks!! Hard to make plans that quick...I may have jinxed myself, but I booked a hotel already!

Aren't you going to stay on campus in the dorm?

Is there no way to just apply really early so that you can find out earlier (or maybe defer for a later session so that at least you know you have a spot?) For example, I am not looking to start until August/Sept 2012, but I was thinking of submitting my application this fall.

Again, it just seems so crazy to give so little lead-in time. I have one other school I will be applying to, but knowing where I would be going involves so many logistics that would be hard to plan for in just 6 or even 8 weeks!

Craziness....
