If I plan on applying to Frontier do you recommend I get NRP before applying or will it be something I have the opportunity to get through them? I've tried seeking out a class on my own, but have found it rather difficult to find one. I have no L&D experience as these job openings are a rarity around here. There is a Karen Strange workshop coming within 8 hours of me at the end of January and there is one in Tenessee at The Farm at the beginning of March. Other than NRP can you offer suggestions on any other certifications? I have ACLS and I am a BLS instructor.

I would recommend AWHONN's fetal monitoring courses/certifications. I don't think you are required to get NRP as a student, but it would certainly be beneficial. At the very least, get the book and familiarize yourself with it. You should also familiarize yourself with lactation and non-pharmaceutical labor support.

Depends on what program through frontier you are applying for. I'm in the CNEP track for CNM and although not required specifically for applying, we are required to have NRP and AWOHNN fetal monitoring course before we start Clinicals. If OB is the field you are hoping to get into, it certainly does not hurt to have a jump in the right direction. It'll also look good on an application for jobs as you have investing your own time and money into this specialty

I should add, these classes are not available through Frontier. Another cert that people find helpful is STABLE.

I would absolutely agree with the PP who recommends STABLE as much as any other cert. It is an excellent class and the info will serve you well if you find yourself with an unstable newborn waiting on transport to a higher level of care.

Here is a list of places that offer it. I'm certain that there are others not listed for whatever reason; I took it through the hospital where I work and there's nothing even listed from my state. All that to say, if this list doesn't have anything close to you, you may find additional classes if you ask around locally.
