I just graduated from college recently and accepted a position on a cardiothoracic unit. Which reference texts would you recommend?

Are you going into ICU? If so, then I suggest Thelan's Critical Care Nursing text 4th Edition published 2002! The gold standard for critical care nursing texts in my opinion!

If your unit is post open heart surgery, the very best book I have ever read -- some in our unit even call it the 'bible' of cardiac surgery -- is the "Manual of Perioperative Care in Cardiac Surgery" by Robert Bojar. You can buy it at Amazon.com and it is $59.95.

The cardiothoracic telemetry unit is a step down unit.

Would these books apply to pediatric cardiac ICU and/or telemetry step down? Or are there others ones that could be suggested for peds cardiac.
